Im sure as hell never paying apple prices for their peripherals again, after a 3rd gently loved power cable, spending $200 to find I could do the same for $75.

Its about time apple got with the rest of the PC market and accepted third party peripherals.

Anyway, looking at this cable. Never had a problem with budget cables from USB so dont see why I should expect different from this vendor?

1.8m Thunderbolt - USB

For $7.99 1 year warranty.

Sure is a lot cheaper than PB tech $30 or Apples $80

Is apples one active vs a cheap passive one?

Just one thing tho, passive ones still have circuitry in them, What they do is just re-shape the signals from the display port to meet HDMI levels, the timing is generated by the displayport output, so you get a lower range of resolution options than you do on an active one. And not all displayports will do HDMI or DVI, I think its a DP+ or something port that will. In anycase, with passive adapters I can only get 3 monitors on my desktop, swap 2 out for active ones and I can drive 4 of them.

Most of those sellers are just bringing in whatever from china and reselling them, so if you can wait you might be able to get a better deal off aliexpress and not have to pay overpriced shipping etc.

USB is easy to get right mechanically.

Display port is a different story for some reason.

My experience is the cheap ones just sound bad (mechanically) when they are plugged in. They don't seem to sit right. For something that is more or less permanently plugged in for life it is not an issue.

For something that will be plugged/unplugged/plugged/unplugged over and over or will get some movement, maybe genuine is the way to go.
