This is nuts. Legacy of a threat from the USSR, no excuse for some of Castro's human rights abuses, and of course Cuban exiles (many in Florida = swing state) are very opposed to improved relations while a Castro is in power.  They did leave for good reason.

But this action by Trump isn't Trump - I'm sure he'd love to open golf resorts, casinos, and bribe his way to profit from improved relations with Cuba,

This is an ideological move - from capitalist fundamentalists in the GOP, who can't get over the fact that they failed to invade or destroy Cuba - but with all the blackness in their authoritarian hearts, will continue to try to destroy it.

Just like the good old pre-Castro days.

There's always something in it for Trump:

Washington Post: As part of an ethics pledge, Trump’s company has vowed to pursue no new foreign deals during his presidency, making a potential foray into Cuba off limits for now. Yet, according to one industry expert, a presidential directive restricting efforts there by Starwood or other hotel chains would, in effect, neutralize a chief rival’s ability to gain an early advantage.

Outstanding!

Bernie is REAL Presidential material.  wink

re Trump's "tax reforms" for the super-rich:  I particularly liked the reference to Trump giving himself a 5 billion dollar tax cut.

freitasm: And the rumours of White House staff being told to get counsel starts running now.

All speculation of course, but I've seen several comments on Twitter that staffers have been barred from seeking outside council by Trump and Bannon, but many are nervous and therefore are doing so mostly in secret.

More on that here.

By telling White House aides they did not need to hire lawyers, Kasowitz dispensed legal advice to people who not only weren’t his clients, but whose interests in the coming legal storm might be contrary to the president’s, the complaint alleges.

Trump has been extremely litigious throughout his business career.

He's not going to roll over and resign like Nixon - that would be out of character,

I do. As I posted ages ago, he has done little damage to the world, much to the US, but he is harmless. It's a reality show and no more. Imho

The damage will take longer to show. Changes are taking place.

Yes - but there's also kick-back which hopefully means that the conservative authoritarian racist misogynous "alt:right" movement which swept Trump into power is being challenged globally.  This seen in Theresa May's failure, as well as failures by nationalists in Europe.

Of course there's risk that conservatives will learn from Trump's failure at leadership, and continue to try to implement their version of anti-liberal Shariah on the West.

No expression of sympathy from Trump for the victims of the Finsbury attack.

Probably had to be prevented from saying something horrible about it anyway.
