You need to turn off the swearing filter, mf! Woah, that was a hell of a ****ing quake, a real rolling motion!!

We're in Palmy Nth and it felt as strong as hell. @Fred99, must have been a real doozy in Chch and nearby.

I see USGS has it listed as a M7.4.

I'm suspicious due to duration of shaking (about a minute) intensity, and shaking intensity, as well as the look of the NZ drums, GNS/Geonet may have been premature in downgrading that to M6.6.

It was about 100km epicentre from Chch.  I expected it was the Alpine Fault.

Felt nicely in Auckland, like rolling waves. Thoughts to those affected!

Scared the crap outa our two cats. Arlo hasn't come back inside yet. I could hear a few alarm systems activated by the motion.

That was a long rolling one.  What I fear are the shallow earthquakes.  Those are the killers.

Didn't seem like it was going to stop. Lights were flickering a little bit.

Hate to think what it was like closer to it.

I was deeply suspicious about moon phase and quakes, but I think it's becoming more accepted that there are some links.  The previous large Chch quakes however didn't correlate.
Haven't seen any news from Hamner Springs area - they will have copped it. Nelson apparently lost power.

Now what's going on in Wgtn?

According to Geonet, you've been rattled by a closer one - but I think that may have been just a "phantom" on Geonet's system.

Some strong aftershock activity going on.

Benoire: Geonet showing lots of quakes across upper South and North Islands!

Yeah - I'm not sure if some of those won't be "phantoms" - incorrectly triangulated location from quakes in other areas.
