Batman:

so, using the collective knowledge of this thread, is setting up an email address with a common word/common name/common something, followed by 4 numbers a good idea? thanks

In all honesty, you're going to get more spam than misdirected (and even legitimate) e-mails regardless of what e-mail address you use.

i just don't want to after all the collective knowledge from here, go and do something dumb. and yes prefer normal email instead of intentionally misspelling something or creating some cryptic code.

You might want to try a random but readable username, e.g. www.lastpass.com/username-generator

Pretty sure if you used that you will have a lot of lost wanted incoming email.

And yes I have a random username email, and does it get spam? Oh yes, it's full of spam that I've stopped using it. Where does it come from? My spam comes from a friend who's been hacked. If your friend gets hacked people have your email address and there's nothing you can do about it!

Just got emailed login details for a vehicle warranty actually destined for an Idaho travel company. Was fairly easy to figure out who they were and contacted them via their (fairly professional) web site. But they use and replied from, a Gmail address different to their web domain name! Why why why?

I've had.. Roblox accounts.. Travel Insurance.. Mobile service.. all sorts of things... I think this is particularly a gmail problem.

Have engaged with a couple of the vendors (in particular to have my address blacklisted by roblox and club penguin and T-Mobile) and once you get past the dumbass customer-service types to people who actually 'get it', most of the big name vendors are very helpful.

The rest get flagged as spam, i'm convinced the only way the vendors will care is if their delivery rates to end users start to drop.

This week I took over someone's account on a Brazilian auction site. Not only that, added 2FA authentication and logged out all sessions.

This week, I received another dentist appointment notice for my regular in the states.

Unfortunately I was unable to cancel his appointment this time, they've removed the option :(

I did remove all his details again though.

Add to his details that he has a heart murmur. That will get everyone’s attention.

Can't add that sort of thing unfortunately. I have deleted every detail I can.

I replied to his University colleges a while ago asking them to explain that you have to own the address you are giving out. At that point I had everything relating to his identity except his banking details.
