I don't like mayonnaise but I do like the ETA yogurt and garlic sauce, which I pretty much use in place of mayonnaise. Now I have just discovered that it has disappeared without a trace. Nothing in the shops, nothing on the web site. Not a word.

I really hate it when manufacturers do this, especially when they don't give any warning. Does anyone know of an acceptable substitute for this product? Maybe I can live without the garlic. I'm not sure yet. But I really want something with a yogurt basis. It just isn't the same otherwise.

You could try making some homemade stuff?

Experiment with some recipes and find what works best.

ETA tend to cull products quite frequently that don't sell. There are only a certain number of facings and ranged products that stores will carry.

Having said that I don't understand why ETA need to make Garlic Mayonnaise and Aioli when they're both pretty much the same and taste the same!

Not being keen on either yoghurt or garlic, I would not know about that.

I do agree that it's annoying when that happens. Three instances spring to mind:

1) Freyas bread - Bavarian Grain was my favourite. Gone, no warning and no explanation

2) McKenzie Country bread - stoneground wholemeal - gone, ditto

3) Home Brand Dog Biscuits - these were treat dog biscuits (like Bonio from the UK) rather than food biscuits and my 3 loved them. Gone, no warning, no explanation.

Maybe you were the only one buying it

Although the ETA twisties looking things is it called crunchies or something - they disappeared for about 10 years from shelves and then reappeared.

Gopal (or Gopala?) is a good natural yoghurt. About $3 for about 700g at Pak 'n' Save and Countdown.

You can add garlic to this, strain it too if you like.

ETA Feta and Garlic is quite yummy.

Though I have noticed a dearth of other brands - Paul Newmanns seems to have disappeared from my local Countdown, and is showing as 50c at Pan n Sav, with a very soon to be expired expiry, and no other stock other than the Caesar, and the Classic Salad dressing.

Yes and you rarely - if ever - see Paul Newmans spaghetti sauce here too.

It seems to depend on what distributors want to push on us rather than what we might actually want...!

Imo ETA went gunning for Paul Newman. Those cowardly varmints killing his products now that he's dead!

I have a shelf full of balsamic 99c expired product from Pak and save. It will probably never go off if I shake it now and then ; ).

I used to make my own reasonable imitation of it (because cheaper) and will go back to that before buying ETA those no good hustlers.

ETA is one step up from Home Brand IMV - they are not even close to PN in quality terms.

Home brand. Goodness me. I'd buy Pam's before that, any day of the week.

Pam's has standards. Having said that, I can't recall the last time I purchased Pam's. Therefore I'd guess it had the intended effect of lowering prices for other products.

I can't see Home Brand achieving that for Countdown. Quality seems inconsistent and therefore less a brand than a packaging.
