ludez: This wasn't a roofer was it?

No, a Paver.

What was astonishing is that this saga of trying to get him to do the work, went on over 10 weeks. He could have got on youtube and LEARNED to do it from scratch in probably 5 days, and done it over the space of another 5 days.

So he's taken money up front and not done the job?

That's illegal for starters

Should follow suit of Aaron and turn $2500 into $10,000. Seems like this guy couldnt hold up in court. Has no defence. Throw the book at the idiot.

^Figures are not accurate above but you get the gist.

He's taken the money and completed the work to such a low standard that no one in their right mind would consider it suitable. The police say that it's a civil dispute because he has continued to offer to remediate.

It's nuts really, he went to prison once before for trying it on.

Bankrupt never hurt any scheming scumsucker... Just look at Trump.

Best of luck. I'm still waiting for $500 from a guy that went to jail for 12 months for fraud in 2011. I  know I'll never see the money.

So apparently to start this process I need to find out what vehicles this prat owns. I am not sure how one does this. Given it's a Limited Liability company it would have been nice to just be able to apply to have him bankrupted.

If the dispute was via the disputes tribunal, and they awarded it, then you can apply for them to have the court collect which throws it into the justice system - and they wont much around collecting. Refusing to honour a small claims directive leads to lots of pain.

A statutory claim is a great way to wind a company up - we used it once - 15 days to prove not bankrupt and payup or else get taken into liquidation / receivership / bankruptcy.

A guy I know in <place name deleted> used to do debt collection by parking his truck with debt collector in clear bold letters outside the house of the person being collected from. in a small community that worked well. Shame is a good motivator.

Following the guy around for a day, and giving a written story - factual and no BS so you dont get slammed - to all he visits, be they potential or actual clients can also do wonders. You cant get fined for sharing your actual and truthful story if you keep it factual.

Sometimes the victory is worth more than the cash you'll probably never receive.

The last bit is not true. I have won at Disputes Tribunal, and paid the extra money to get the court to collect. I gather they went to his house, was told he no longer lived there, and did essentially nothing else. Had the same experience with a couple of tenants who did a runner owing rent.

What was the outcome? Did you chase the courts and they chased him?

Heh, probably a little overkill, even though he is a complete slimeball who preys on old people.
