I've put this in Off Topic as it doesn't really apply to any one Telco.

We currently have VDSL and home phone with 2degree's, however the phone is through their VOIP service.

We just tried to switch to Slingshot and were connecting a couple of mobile accounts as well. I was advised today by the provisioning team that retaining our landline number is not possible.

We haven't had issues before going from VOIP-Copper phone service as far as number retention.

Will I get the same answer from all Telco's? Is this advise coming from Chorus?

Thanks.

It depends what type of land line service is available.  If it's VoIP or LLU then it should be possible to retain your number.  If your line is a POTS service provided by Spark then it's not always possible.

We currently have the VOIP service via 2degree's but have had POTS previously as well with other providers.

Sorry, I was referring to what type of service you are going to.  If you're going to a VoIP or LLU service then someone may have given you incorrect information.  In that case, please drop me a PM with some details and I'll check it out.

I was keen to stick with VOIP but very few providers seem to offer it nowadays that I could find.

Could always go with a naked plan and use a 3rd party VoIP service (eg. 2Talk), otherwise I believe Orcon still offer over-the-top VoIP on VDSL.  Either way there should be no problem porting your number provided it's in the correct local calling area where you are located.  HTH.

What is the correct order to do things if I want to change my VoIP phone number to 2talk and then switch to a naked VDSL Provider?

Change the phone over first? The info on the 2talk page mentions I would need to let the new dsl provider know I need to keep the same line or I could lose the phone number?
