So just got the following email with "hot online deals for mobile phones and smart watches"

People would have to be mad to buy these, the LG watch was released in 2014 and the sony 2013

Even the ticket price of $499 is just a load of bull.

Jeez, the G W R I bought two years ago for $130 has appreciated faster than an Auckland house!

Looks like someone at JB's has tripped over a box of old stock and decided to try their luck. At least the GWR is slated for AW2.0 at some stage. But the SW2 is pretty much a paperweight these days.

Is this a genuine discount? It says 'ticket' price , but is that the RRP? Pricespy shows the highest price is $169

That was around the release price back in 2014.  I don't know what they are smoking but that is no deal they are passing off, it's a cash grab.

What's the bet it's AU old stock that they are just fobbing off to NZ'ers

Excuse me. The SW2 is still a solid performer for the discerning. And not a bad deal at $150. Almost tempted to pick up a spare.

I think the OP was making, was whether the discount shown is correct in todays market as they are old models

No he was referring to my comment about the paperweight. I have the SW3 and it's not even going to get AW2. Abandonment by Sony is a shame because both the SW2 and SW3 are good devices.

Harvey Normal pull that sort of stuff all the time, end of line or last years (or older) model in their "this weeks biggest ever sale since last weeks biggest ever sale" BS. I remember looking at AV receivers, a Marantz one that was the 2012 or 2013 model being "discounted" of RRP in one of their 2015 sale de jour.

Technically correct and probably just inside the fair trading act, just......

Not sure what the fuss is about. Retailers are free to sell old stock or new stock for whatever price they see fit. If the market will meet that price, is yet to be seen. They are not purporting this as a newly released product, worth more than a newer released model.

Caveat Emptor as always.

Is there evidence to support the fact they are incorrectly labelling the RRP or discount levels applied? You can't just look at the lowest price on pricespy and then claim that is the RRP.

Admittedly, I am unsure the rules as they apply to stating RRP on a model no longer manufactured and/or sold.

The Fair Trading Act says you must be advertising the old price for a reasonable period before the new price if you a claiming that it is discounted.

4-6 weeks is the norm for the period of the old price but the exact period is not written into law.

I would suspect if JB has not being selling these for the full retail price prior, but have no evidence either way (just my hunch).
