Hello,

I'm working as a sole trader programming apps for a few months now.

I want to hire a designer from abroad to work on an app of mine that I intend to make some money from it in the future.

Can I add his payment as a deductible expense when doing my taxes? If so, what does he need to provide me so I can prove the source of the expense?

Thanks!

As above you will need an invoice.  As they are based overseas there is no GST that you will be charged so make sure its not in your GST claim (if you are GST registered).

Get professional advice based on the circumstances of your case. Software development costs may not be deductible, some are capital and depreciable.
