hey guys,

I watched the keynote from this morning and laughed when they said

our new iPad supports usb3 and fast charge, when paired to a usb-c to lightning cable and usb-c charging adaptor your device will charge twice as fast.

so to put that into perspective, new iPad (cool) , but fast charging sold separately.

Don't you all think thats kinda BS.

That's just Apple wringing every last cent out of you that they can.

They also tried to claim that a pointless speaker you can talk to will somehow be groundbreaking.

Just looks like another gadget that does not really do anything that needed to be done.

I heard their hand there is a files app, and you can copy and paste but is that between apps? I want to copy anything on my laptop and post it to an app on the iPad. I can manage that by fluffing around with iTunes, but Id like to do things normally and now. and here is me, watching every keynote buying every iPhone, updating within two seconds. I still have my 6 Plus, updated iOS just recently as the alerts bugged me, now getting them again. Im over it. It works very well I just use it, cant be bothered anymore.

But I think my file management hopes are in vain?

It should sound pretty great, it's got large woofers and an array of tweeters, Adjusts the sound to the room it is in.

7 tweeters that will work okay if the speaker is in the middle of a room + a 4" woofer...

It's a trend to have a mega wide dispersion speaker in the range, but it's certainly not the first design I'd choose to launch with.

Having said that, I'm sure they'll sell a few!

But will it change the market? Nope, it's just another speaker to sit amongst the other options out there. The OS agnostic options will most likely win, many of them will be on the market soon that not only offer Airplay, but also Bluetooth, DLNA etc etc.

I've already got a Zeppelin Air.

Sounds excellent. I don't need to talk to it....

The thing is that siri has been left behind by Alexa and google home. Siri even sounds more like a computer. Also such a speaker will only work with compatible hardware, which is very limited with Apples homekit. Whereas Alexa seems to work with a lot of different ones including Wemo devices. Also a single speaker is very limited when it comes to listening to music properly, as you don't even get stereo sound from different places in the room. It is also way way over priced, when the Echo dot is only a fraction of that.

If they had made it portable, so it could be carried around the house, then that would have been a good idea.

As someone who has an Amazon device, I consider it to be one of the best gadgets in our house. Our kids can request music, we can set timers, add stuff to our shopping list, get a news feed, add stuff to a task list. It's great. I do acknowledge however, it's not for everyone.

Having said that, I wouldn't write one off. Knowing how fanatical a lot of Apple fans are, I suspect it will sell like hotcakes.

I'm a fan of Apple - I'm typing this on a very nice 4k iMac.

However, I can't see why any of those functions need building into a loudspeaker. I can do all of them on a phone, which I already have to carry around. What does putting them in a loudspeaker achieve over and above that?

It's fair to say that I have moved from 'everything Apple' to 'much less Apple' in the last few years. No iPhone (after 3 successive ones), no MacBook Pro (Surface Pro 4 instead, although I'm not really enamoured with that either) and still wondering what the point of the iPad actually is..!

Perhaps I am a "Former Fanboi"!

Also. That new iMac. What a beast. I don't think any one was expecting that much power inside an all in one. 18 cores for goodness sake.

It sits on a table. There is no large woofer at all in it. At best like a typical crappy bluetooth speaker.

there are a few use cases I can think of - for example when cooking and trying to follow a recipe my hands are often dirty and so I can't easily use my device - voice could be useful there.
