I just watched a random video of a physics teacher showing off Bernoulli's Principle.

It was strangely joyous.

ToPGuNZ:

Me smiling, as I watch my daughter smiling, while she is listening to one of her favourite bands cover one of my favourite songs. Talking Heads, Burning Down the House.

I love it, Paramore have done a fantastic job of it. This will be on a Stop Making Sense tribute album.

First time doing YouTube BBCode. Lets see if it works for an extra smile.

Great cover - and I am not normlly full of praise for the somewhat over-hyped Paramore.

Have just bought an iSUP (inflatable Stand Up Paddleboard) and I have inflated it for the first time (in the lounge) and stood on it (incredibly easy to ride indoors) and then deflated it, put the board, pump and paddle in the suplied backpack.

Moments later the life vest I ordered from Trademe arrived, so I re-inflated the board, reassembled the paddle and put on the vest, to once again "ride" my board in the loung...only this time I was far safer.

Even my 17 year old son thought I only looked a little bit like a knob.

I always used to say I had no interest in Stand Up Paddleboards. I dare say I'll say that again after a go on the water. But for now, it's an excellent indoor toy.

It has made me smile.

It was on FB, so I'll have to have a look and see where that was actually from - if I find a YT link, I'll post it.

I am amused by the recent One Choice insurance commercial, in which the green lady suddenly springs up from a ball pit. If this happened for real, the child would run away screaming, scarred for life, and the lady would be immediately arrested as a dangerous pervert. It seems an odd choice for One Choice!

I particularly agree with our honesty boxes and lendiing libraries, food (which 20 years ago was awful, but now is as good as most other places), and sports where we punch well above our weight. Duck Island Icecream is also awesome.

I went up to the Red Beach Squash and Surf Life club last night for a particular food event. It was exceptionally pleasant. Good food, good reviews, very relaxed semi rural family, and everyone knows you type atmosphere. The kids and I really enjoyed ourselves.

Working with gitlab and got a list of builds that happened (1 week ago)
Wondered if I could change that so it told me the actual date rather than 'some time last week'
Found out there was a feature request for it, because yeah - that would be useful.

What made me smile?

Stores that have a publicly accessible email address listed on their site AND respond promptly to said emails.

Doesn't feel that hard, but a surprisingly small number of companies do it.

Received a letter in the mail today, claiming to be from Canada, but postmarked in France. It was addressed to my father who died over a decade ago and it was a variation on the usual inheritance scam. They claim someone with a similar name died and they will handle everything for 10% of the cash.

They've even gone as far as setting up a fairly legitimate looking Website for their Canadian law firm. Only obvious issue are the use of American spelling and photos (presumably stock) that clearly have nothing to do with Canada.

You'll have to try harder than that... a 72 day old domain name isn't going to do the job.

Went with my youngest son and bought his first car.

The salesman's pitch was excellent: "Yeah mate. It's not sexy and it ain't gonna win any races. Plus it's pretty basic. Nobody's gonna want to steal it.".

Sounds ideal. Son is very happy. He's worked hard for his money and had a contribution from both his grandparents and us, so he could go "up a tier in crappiness".

Car should be ready to pick up from dealer in next day or so (they're getting a couple of things done).

He's so proud. Made me take pic of him next to it, so he could send it to his girlfriend. He's not big on having his pic taken, so that must've been a really big deal for him.
