I believe you may be correct.

And I've been trying so hard to reduce my use of "passive language".

I should have written simply "The correct number is 423." since that is a factual statement and doesn't need to be couched in any kind of disclaimer ("I think/believe/understand...")

Handsomedan:

Getting a phone call from "Vanilla Ice" after a 34 minute wait (after putting my beers in the freezer and texting 'Ice Ice' to 433).

It's a funny, but useful service that helps to prevent exploding bottles of beer in the freezer.

Made me smile.

I just say to Sonos: “Alexa, set a timer for x minutes”.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Sheez, I can't believe I actually hang around here with you heathens!!

Am I the only one here organised enough to ensure there's always cold beer in the fridge??

I'm about to head in for my last day. There's always heaps of food on the last day, as a bit of a bribe to get us all in there!

I have cold beer, but do YOU have a bonafide 80's one hit wonder calling you out of the blue to remind you to Stop, Collaborate and Listen?

Smile of the day - ordered some prescription sunglasses from Clearly.

Not only was there a hefty bargain to be had, but the estimated delivery was just shy of the New Year - not bad at this time if year, I thought.

Today, I received an email from Clearly advising that I should receive my package by Mondy end of day. THat's not bad service.

I clicked on the tracking link and they are with the courier for delivery between 8.45 and 10.45am today!

That is amazing service.

Next prescription glasses I am getting will be form Clearly - there's no way I am paying full price from Specsavers or OPSM, if I can get the same for 1/3 of the price, with that kind of service.

My replacement glasses from Specsavers, ordered a few days before the sunnies? Still no word on when I'll get those - might be Monday. Might not.

That reminds me of being overseas many years ago. Several American school busses had been seconded and moved to a rather austere location as transport - they still had the sign writing from the school district's they were taken from on the side. They had a large red stop sign that popped out from the drivers side when they were pulled over to drop off / pick up passengers.

Someone had taken a very thick permanent marker and written "Hammer Time" under the "Stop" on one of them. It never failed to illicit a laugh when I saw that particular bus, and you could instantly hear M.C. himself calling it out with the tune ringing in your ears.

As I just mentioned in the "annoy" thread - my Zenni order from 12 Dec still not arrived whereas my contact lenses from Clearly generally take an amazing 1-2 days to deliver.

"I believe/think" or "In my opinion" are habitually used these days as people are wary of being threatened with legal action for stating their honestly held opinions.

That this thread is so active at this time of year.

It feels significantly more fun to be alive than it has been the last few years, reflected in how many posts there are here recently.

The breadth of experience in our lives has never been wider. We live in a life of luxury that would be unimaginable in older generations. Average families now live like the millionaires of 50 years ago if you take away the relativism to others that are doing better. On the other hand, homelessness and poverty are ever present and generationally embedded.

Overall, despite the social problems we have in society, I truly believe that the opportunities for all are better now than ever before. It is simply a matter of having the values and drive to grasp them. The biggest barrier to those that are doing poorly is low expectation delivered to them by their parents (or indeed complete lack of effective parents). You only have to look at immigrants and in particular refugees that show up in NZ with nothing, cannot believe their luck, and do really well.

Successful price-matches.

Got the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition 32GB for $247.94. The Warehouse let me price-match The Mall (Auckland Airport)

The fridge is stocked up according to the menu plan and will certainly last for a fortnight. Christmas, New Year's Eve and New Year can come - whether it's snowstorms, tidal waves or the Russians.😁

edit: I forgot, for the latter I prepared like the Finns 1,500 rounds of .223 Rem (5.56x45mm NATO) as dessert for a 300m range rifle ... only from my cold dead hand! 😎
