Harvey Norman routinely operate different pricing online vs physical stores. Commonly online is higher to avoid stores like NL from price matching as they can't provide proof of the cheaper price in-store from the website.

They also run a lot of online only deals that are not applicable from a store.

I've only ever had really positive experiences with the Noel Leeming Price Match - in fact do it for basically every purchase as they offer Fly Buys - have just gone in with the competitors website with the price up on my phone.. had a few eye bulge moments from the staff member when the price has been WAY below what they selling it for. I was actually having a conversation with my wife after the last purchase that I feel bad for the company offering the lower price as they the one doing the hard yards .. but the fly buys do add up in the end.

tripp:

Not noel leemings but harvery normans just a couple of days ago.

They had a laptop i wanted for $1754 online, over in HN in AU they had it listed for $2499AU normally price in nz was $2699.

Went in to test out a few things (like if it would charge off my battery pack etc).  It did so told them I would take it.  Guy starts doing up the invoice etc and said it was on special for $2299 on their computer system, I said well online its $1754 so then he said "oh we can't sell it for that"  Told him to talk to his manager he did and got it for that price, but the sales guy was like "this is 25% below our cost" then he was pushing the warranty sales hard.

Still showing the same price online with the "35% off"

I do feel sorry for some of the sales people on sales commission, it must make things hard sometimes when head office cuts prices so much.

However if the laptop was not 1754 I would not have even gone to the store.

"Cost" and what they end up paying after rebates are two completely different things.

I had a similar issue where Bond and Bond had the camera I wanted, went to NL for Flybuys and they offered to match the price less the flybuys.

I told them that because of their attitude I would drive the 5km to Bond and Bond and they could take a long walk off a short peir.

The manager tried to stop me on the way out but I still went to Bond and Bond.

Basically their price match is a massive scam and I have heard a lot of people have issues with this.

BTW because the printer was out of stock at the store you visited doesn't mean it is out of stock at the other stores, looks like they found their excuse to not honour it for you.

And there is no way in the world their true "cost" would ever be loaded into the POS system of any appliance store. That would be commercial suicide.
