I have been watching the JPL feed of Cassini's final dive onto Saturn. There isn't actually that much to see. No real-time video of the plunge or anything like that, just flight controllers sitting at their consoles in a darkened room. Anyway, there are about 15 minutes to go until the craft finally dies. For those who value this kind of thing, maybe worth joining in for the last moments. I will be seeing it out to the end. I think it is something worth bearing witness to. We live in remarkable times.

Always sad to see such a successful mission come to an end.
Sadder still is to realise there's nothing else in the pipeline for solar system exploration. Juno is at Jupiter and New Horizons is zipping past a rock in 7 years. And after that, nothing. Nothing en route, nothing being built, nothing planned.
I hope this is not the end of a golden age of exploration.
