freitasm: Watched Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit last night. I am almost contacting Amazon to get my money back. What a piece of bad acting, bad story, bad everything movie.

Snap. However I thought it was quite good. Getting sick of Liam Neeson always in these sorts of things so that was a nice change. Enjoyed the story predictable as it was, but agree some rather mediocre acting. All in all I would probably go 6/10.

Is this movie based on one of the Jack Ryan books or is it just using the character's name?

Just using, although they mention the helicopter crash who gave Jack his "problems" but in a completely different context.

Once upon a time in Shanghai.(2014) 8/10 . I love the old fashion Kung Fu movies and this one is really good. Great Action fight scenes , ok script, simple plot and in this case, beautifully filmed .

DarthKermit: Ender's Game

I tried to like it but just didn't. I can't quite put my finger on what was wrong with this film for me.

.

Film very limited by simplifying a complex adult sci fiction novel into a Disney sci-fi lite movie.

Maybe you picked up on this...

The book is so much better.

(sequel is called speaker for the dead , reflecting the effects of killing the alien species)

A Million Ways To Die in the West (10/10) - my favourite Seth MacFarlane thing ever (and I love the majority of his other stuff).

What We Do in the Shadows (5/10) - was ok but certainly did not live up to all the hype.

I concur.  Better investment in the story in #2 but the full gore action sequences were still incredible.  Bring on #3 !!!

I'm going to the cinema with the wife tomorrow and this was on the top of the list.

However, I'd like to hear other peoples opinions on this though please?

Is it a movies movie or wait to Bluray, as in will it benefit from the big screen experience?

A friend described it on facebook as:
"Lots of laughs if you like awkward geeky people who think they are cool, but aren't really (classic Taika Waiteti/Jermane Clement/Rhys Darby)"

The Grand Budapest Hotel - 9/10
Easily the most memorable movie of recent times, witty, funny, great script and acting and surprisingly (in a good way) a fact action movie.

300 Rise of an Empire - 7/10
I enjoyed it much more than the first 300 film, better acting and action scenes IMO.

What we do in the shadows

OMG, this is the funniest movie that I've seen in a long time. Anyone from Wellington will get a kick out of the locations, and the send up of vampire lore is spot on. Please do see it, you won't regret it.

I'll take your advice. Will be taking the GF to that one tonight, and post opinion tomorrow.

I missed Grand Budapest, hoping it will be out on disk/sky or similar some time soon.

As per above, I took the GF to What We Do in the Shadows last night.

I quote liked it and would give it a 7/10. I would have given it an 8 if the writing/editing had been tighter - there were a couple of gags that were initially funny but got slightly tedious through over-use. It was quite funny to see a number of the Wellington spots I know well on screen. The GF loved it an (I'm guessing) would have given it a higher score than me.

So a good, funny, film. Definitely one you can take the "other half" to, and worth seeing.

12 Angry Men (Netflix)

An oldie but goodie one (1957) .
I remember reading the play in 4th form and wanting to see the film.

Black and white, single scene.
No explosions or CGI, just characters and dialogue.
Very good 9/10.
