The Founder: 9/10
Often wasn't sure if he was a good guy or a bad guy, but an interesting guy regardless.

Felt the same way. It sent me down a rabbit hole for an hour....

Decided he was an a-hole, but his wife made up for it when he died and gave away over $1.6 billion to charities. She even tried to give away his baseball team to the city, but wasn't allowed.

One of the McDonald brothers ate the 50 billionth burger, and died at 89, the other died at 69 (in 1971).

Deadpool.

Finally got around to seeing this. Ryan Reynolds as an actor continues to impress, but overall I thought the script relied too much on clever dialogue at the expense of a coherent or interesting story line.

A thousand one-liners alone a movie don't make; I was pretty much bored for the duration.

Fate of the Furious. Predictable cringeworthy acting at times but the action was hard to beat. Maybe the best I've seen in a long time. Overall it was excellent, probably the best of the group. 8/10.

Jason Stratham was the best part in my opinion. Esp near the end.

Moana (on Quickflix now): beautiful animation, catchy songs, but the coconut pirates annoyed me. The story was good though. Good to recognise some voices there - including Temuera Morrison in the cast.

Rogue One (also on Quickflix now): good tie in with Episode IV, I was wondering how the characters would fit in since they never showed up on Ep IV (answer in the movie), good special effects but at some point I thought "This thing is going on for too long". It cold possibly be about 20 minutes shorter.

Fate of the Furious (AKA Fast 8 AKA F8 of the Furious) - 8/10 (geddit?)

This falls into the category of "if you like it you like it, if you don't you don't."  No-one who hasn't enjoyed any of the previous entries in this franchise is going to be converted to a fan based on this film.  But likewise, if you have enjoyed the previous films this one is going to be just as enjoyable.

I have to admit to being a fan of these films right from the start.  Despite the original film being a rip off of Point Break, I think it was a very well made rip off (cheesy acting notwithstanding).  2 Fast 2 Furious wasn't great but had its own moments.  I enjoyed Tokyo Drift, even Fast 4 was okay.  It really seemed to hit its stride with Fast5 and since then it's been on a pretty familiar path of heist/car/family themes, characterised by increasingly OTT action sequences.

Fast8 is a solid entry, and I really enjoyed it.  At no point during the film did I find myself checking my watch or getting bored.  Yes, the storyline is ridiculous (were you expecting a Shakespearean drama?) but the action is the raison d'etre for these films and it doesn't disappoint.  In particular, Jason Statham's final action scene is great (reminiscent, perhaps even a rip off, of Shoot 'em Up).  Dwayne Johnson's "addressing of the troops" near the start was also great.  The banter and dynamic between these two characters pushed other supporting characters (Ludacris and Tyrese Gibson) to the background, but hard to avoid with that many "stars".  New entries from Helen Mirren (!) and Scott Eastwood are good, and Charlize Theron holds her own in a cheesy villain role.  They're clearly setting up for a trilogy, of which this is the first entry so expect to see her back for the next film.

Nocturnal Animals 8/10

Cool double story with some tense scenes. Solid acting all round although Michael Shannon steals the show.

One of the best animated movies of last year, and way better than the rabbit-cop movie that won the oscar.

I certainly wouldn't say so, I think Moana was fantastic but it would be my third favourite animated film of last year behind Zootopia and 'Kime no na wa'.

Moana was good but felt a little rushed in the story. It could have done with another 6 months of streamlining imo

For what it's worth (i.e. nothing!) my vote for best animated film for 2016 would be for Kubo and the Two Strings...

The girl on the train.
Interesting story, but totally melancholy, so I felt a bit empty inside afterwards. So while it was good I wouldn't watch it again. The wife feels the same.

Just watched this. 7 or 8/10

Had trouble rating this one. I feel like it deserves an 8, but my level of enjoyment was probably a 7. I was already vaguely familiar with the history, so the lack of any real surprises probably lowered my enjoyment level a little.

I found this film to be SUCH a downer.  As far as thriller mystery's go it wasn't even that good.  Very formulaic.  At the beginning I felt like Emily Blunt was seriously overacting... kind of like this was her "you never go full retard" film à la Tropic Thunder.  She grew on me over the course of the movie but I just never felt invested in her or her arc.
