An update...

Batman The Dark Knight was good. But I liked Batman Begins better.

The X Files... What a load of... I just watched Fight The Future on DVD again last night, and it was much better. This is from someone who watched The X Files from Season 1 on TV and have all the DVDs.

I've seen a few lately so I'll probably miss some out, or not give the ones I list here the credence they deserve!

Lars and the Real Girl - this was really cool actually.  If anyone has seen or heard of www.realdolls.com then you'll know what this is about.  The first movie I saw about these dolls was a French film on SBS in Melbourne, and I figured this was going to be an American remake, but thankfully it was a story of its own.  Follows a 20something guy, Lars, who is socially inept and has some deep seated neuroses.  He buys a real doll and begins a delusional relationship with it.  The real heartwarming part of the film, taking the weird premise out of the loop, is the way the town and family rallies around him to support his delusion in order to help him through it.  Such a good movie!  Probably a really good date movie actually as my gf loved it too :)  Genuinely funny and beautifully shot.

The Dark Knight - too much has already been said about this.  All I will say is that I enjoyed the Joker's portrayal, but I'm not in agreement that Heath Ledger deserves a posthumous Oscar.  He was good but not great.  I really enjoyed the 2nd villian plotline and how the main plot intertwined with him/it.  Batman's voice - didn't annoy me at all, he's supposed to be intimidating and he has to hide his celebrity identity so of course he's going to over-do the menace aspect.  At this stage I agree with Mauricio about Batman Begins being the better, but I think if I see Dark Knight again with a more understanding eye it might just tip the scale in its favour :)

Baby Mama - This one is another genuinely funny film with a human touch.  A 30something single career-woman wants to get pregant but has no luck the "natural" way, so she brings in a surrogate.  Some of it is a bit silly - which is to be expected from Tina Fey a la 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live, but on the whole it's another good date film I think.  It's nice to see a few comedies coming out that aren't the typical toilet humor of Superbad and the Apatow line of films (although they have their place too!)

Ditto this one. SPOILER ALERT: Lars throws a tantrum because he never gets to spend any time with his 'girlfriend' anymore and no one cares for him. His sister in-law points out everyone is [going along with it] exactly because they care. Magic moment!

Batman Begins on TV this weekend. Will have to check if it's HD...

Batman Begins
Awesome movie but got sick of Christian Bales voice.

Rush Hour 3
Never really been a fan but had a good laugh

WAR (aka Rogue)
Jason Statham and Jet Li  great combo good story line.

The Bank Job
Loved it Jason Statham but no karate.  Good british crim flick

REC
Pretty freaky but I was not much of a fan of the Blair Witch.  I think it is they way the use the camera.  Missus loved it and was terrified.  Particularily disturbing near the end.  Watch in Dark room sound up on your own go on I dare you.

Awake
Jessica Alba and the dude who played Alakin Skywalker.  Weak acting good conecpt personaly would think twice about being oput under a GA after watching this  would give it 2 out of 5

Some other movies I saw - on the plane coming back to NZ a couple of weeks ago: Bullit (very good, 60s), the Bank Job was good, and Beverly Hills Cop (what a load of non-politically correct stuff!).

I recommend Bullit if you are into old police/mystery movies.

I have had a bit of a movie fest recently, mostly DVDs though.

The Dark Knight
I am a superhero movie go so what can I say - loved it. I really enjoyed that it had some interesting depth to it. Heath Ledger was amazing so unlike his other roles where it is always 'Heath Ledger' in a different costume.

Bella
Drama - I thought this wonderful and highly recommend it. Don't want to say too much and spoil it. The interviews at the end are very good too...

Hancock
I was quite disappointed by this, not up to what I think is Will Smith's usual quite high standard. It looked really funny in the trailers but then when I got to the movie, they were the only funny bits - and not quite as funny in the context...

I agree about Hancock - it was another one of those "great trailer, cr@p film" moments.

Troy - Another Movieshack Blu-ray rental.  I'm not a fan of these types of films, you know: Alexander, Gladiator, Troy, etc.  I basically watched it because my GF hadn't seen it for ages and she wanted to see how historically inaccurate it is now that she's finished a degree in Classics :)  I was impressed with the picture and audio quality in HD, as usual, but the movie itself is not one I'd recommend unless you are REALLY bored!

Iron Man - Finally saw this the other night.  Uh-MAZING!  Loved it.  Go out and see it immediately...and roll on the sequel!

Hellboy 2 : Story had a lot of potential, but they didnt go anywhere with it.... disappointed with the ending. If you didnt like the 1st one, dont bother with this one either.

Im so behind with movies.... I must have 2 years worth of catching up to do.

Just finished watching "The Eyes" with Jessica Alba. Great movie would watch it again.
"The Happening", saw some negative posts earlier in this thread, I found this movie very interesting, ok, so it didn’t have any twists like his other movies, but put up against other movies that came out and it’s not too bad. I would add it to my DVD collection

Sex in the city, while having dinner on the flight AKL - SFO. Quite enjoyable actually, but can understand why it would be for girls only at the movies...

did you watch to the end of the credits?  that "i am iron man" line takes on new meaning in the scene AFTER the credits roll.

I also watched Get Smart on the way to SFO - so bad I forgot to mention it. On the back from LAX last night I watched Grease - always a good one. And this morning before landing I watched Made of Honor. Candy girly romantic comedy. Works, but not something to buy the DVD to keep.
