The Greatest Beer Run Ever - TV - 30 Sept 2022

Looks like it could be fun

Looks a good laugh... looking forward to watching the movie.

when I watched the trailer I immediately thought of the 1990 movie Air America with Mel Gibson & Robert Downey jr, which I also enjoyed

iMac 27" [14.2] (late 2013), Airport Time Capsule 5th gen, iPhone13 x 2, iPad6, iPad Mini5, Spark Smart Modem 1st Gen

Panasonic TV Viera TH-L50E6Z (1080p), Panasonic Blu-ray PVR DMR-BWT835, Yamaha AVR RX-V1085 [6.1 Surround Speaker System], Apple TV 4k 64Gb (2nd gen)

Kia Sportage Urban EX (2019), Suzuki Swift SR7 (2011)

The difficult we can do immediately. The impossible takes a bit longer. But Miracles you will have to wait for.

Yeah, they look like similar types of movies... wish ' The Greatest Beer Run Ever ' was out now, instead of having to wait until the 30th Sept.

Bullet Train at Event - 7/10

Sort of a cross between Smokin' Aces, Pulp Fiction, and a Guy Ritchie movie with the over the top violence of Deadpool (not surprising given it's the same guy behind it)

Bunch of assassins converge on a bullet train, each with their own backstory.

Entertaining and fun, if a bit long. Brad Pitt overdid his character a bit I thought though.

Not a great movie by any means but I can think of worse ways to pass a couple of hours.

I did learn a new term while reading some other comments about the movie - Chekhov's Gun.

Pretty enjoyable and great Atmos sound track.

Some advice. Dont leave when the credits start to the roll as there is a sequence at the end which not quite like a Marvel teaser, does help explain a couple of plots points.

Tried to watch Carter 2022 after seeing a few people mention it here. Couldn't get into it, one of the rare times I've just not bothered to finish a movie, 20 minutes in I couldn't see how it would improve.

Interceptor - not a bad watch, a little overdone in parts, fairly formulaic a good way to swich your brain off and get some down time. 6.5/10

Lightyear (Disney+ NZ)

Eldest son wanted to watch it as a family (he's 17!)

Having been exposed to the whole Toy Story franchise as the kids were growing up there was a touch of nostalgia at play with this one.

They explained how/why the movie exists at the beginning, which is good. The action was fun and it wasn't too "kiddie".

Overall and enjoyable cartoon movie. Animation was top notch.

Day Shift , netflix
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13314558/

Jamie Foxx is really good in this film.
Its an action packed modern vampire killer film. More tongue in check than horror , over the top shoot em up .

I'd give it a 7/10. Starts off really good , gets too silly & too hollywood at the end .
Snoop Dogg was a surprise :-)

Woodstock 99 ,  netflix
A doco split over 3 episodes . I watched it all in one hit .

9/10 . Really good . Shows how bad that woodstock reboot was , and how attitudes have changed for the worse since the original in the
60's . Shows management not caring & just after money at any cost , out of control youth just wanting anarchy & destruction , some bands just wanting to work the crowd into a frenzy of destruction .

I also watched both of those last week. I agree on all of your points and have nothing to add.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is a 2018 American Western anthology film

It's by the Coen brothers: "Raising Arizona" , Fargo, "The Big Lebowski, "No Country for Old Men", ...

Not for children, as there's extensive cartoonish violence.

If you're wondering about the cowboy's reaction, he was dealt a dead man's hand

Here's 5 minutes of it.

Part I - Saloon scene

Part II - song following Saloon scene

Watched Nope at the movies last night.
Was…good. Wasn’t amazing.
Had its moments where it was very good, but it was slow. And a bit odd.

Air America 7/10 (private collection) 1990 with Mel Gibson & Robert Downey jr,

A young pilot finds himself recruited unwittingly into a covert and corrupt CIA airlift operation in Laos during the Vietnam conflict.

Still like it

Flipped (2010) 7/10 A Rob Reiner film, if you know who that is =P

A bit of backstory... The neighbour's cat was attacked by two dogs last week. Finally off the Fentanyl and back to wanting to sit on my lap at (usually) inconvenient times, I felt she deserved a little extra attention after what she'd been through. I had this film I'd been meaning to watch, so I put it on while I was pinned down.

Why? There are several YouTube channels that post movie recaps, sometimes without even naming the film. This film randomly appeared courtesy of 'the algorithm', with comments disabled, so I had no idea what the film was. Fortunately, I recognised two of the actors, the dad from Frasier (John Mahoney) and Anthony Edwards. I surmised the comment section was probably disabled due to all the comments on how Edward's career took a sharp nosedive post-Top Gun, or since Revenge Of The Nerds IMO (not a Top Gun fan). Armed with actor and character names, Google pointed me in the right direction... Flipped.

Looking at the recap video, I honestly felt very little desire to watch the film. Yet another movie about a girl obsessed with a boy, boy pushes the girl away, boy realises he likes the girl, girl hates the boy as the result of a misunderstanding, situation resolves and they end up happy ever after, with some minor sub-plots thrown in to distinguish it from other trite storytelling. However, when I saw the trailer, the movie had a completely different tone and I felt much more inclined to watch it. I suppose that's why they have trailers.

Yes, the basic story is pretty much as above, but what made this film interesting was how the story was told from two different perspectives. There are two sides to every story, and while not a new concept, it made the movie much more interesting than the story itself. You could say it's greater than the sum of its parts... a theme of this film.

The soundtrack was above average (set in the '60s), the acting was decent (Why Edwards is better known than his Nerds co-star Curtis Armstrong is still a mystery to me) and the story itself was interesting enough. I'd certainly watch it again and would consider it worthy of adding to my Blu-ray collection.

Prey.  It's a great return to form for Predator's franchise.

Saw it last night, top watch - Trailers give too much away, so posted pic instead... The story revolves around Naru, a skilled Comanche warrior, who is striving to prove herself as a hunter. She finds herself having to protect her people from a vicious humanoid alien that hunts humans for sport.

6/10 - she with your comments that it started out good but fell flat partway through.

Seemed more into world building without explaining two much. We get juve bampires, Uber vampires and all sorts. Never explain if the real world is aware of vampires or not.

And what's up with the neighbor? I had to rewind to remember who she was.

Just watched Prey on Disney+

It's a good action movie.

I'd say it's one of the better Predator-franchise movies. It's got a great cast, decent storyline and there's the obligatory Predator in the middle of it all. I like that the Predator was slightly less technologically advanced than the 20th/21st Century versions - but was still on the technological curve up and away from humankind. Gave it a sense of being appropriate for the time (1700's).

7/10 for me
