Handle9: I watched Margin Call last night. It’s from 2011 and about the start of the subprime mortgage crisis.

Absolutely superb, especially for a film made for $3.5 million in 17 days. It’s got a superb cast - Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, Demi Moore, Paul Bettany, Stanley Tucci, Zachary Quinto. This sort of movie never gets made anymore, it’d be a TV series instead.

9/10.

You should try The Big Short starring Christian Bale. It's also about how the GFC came about and well worth a watch.

I've seen that previously. While the subject matter is similar they really are very different films.

'Idiocracy' (8/10)

At first I wanted to turn off the 'bullshit', but once you consciously get to an IQ of 100 (be it from above or below, but the latter will be harder) and see the parallels, the movie might actually turn more and more into a classic masterpiece in the future.

I started watching that and got about 1/3 of the way through but just found it too weird for my tastes.

Sniper: Assassin's End - 5/10 (Netflix)

Legendary sniper Thomas Beckett and his son, Special Ops Sniper Brandon Beckett, are on the run from the CIA, Russian Mercenaries, and a Yakuza-trained assassin with sniper skills that rival both legendary sharp shooters.

Your fault for not managing to get down to an IQ of 100 (to finish watching the ˋtil the end). ;-)

Bullet Train 8/10 (alternate sources)

Five assassins aboard a fast moving bullet train find out their missions have something in common.

Thoroughly enjoyable movie. I thought, at first, that this was a Cohen brothers movie but it is by David Leitch, of Fall Guy & Dead Pool. Pay attention as there are lots of twists and turns. All the actors are great. Sandra Bullock makes a cameo as a return favour to Brad Pitt who made a cameo in her last movie The Lost City. Both did these cameos for free. Apparently they and their respective families are great friends.

This movie is a keeper for me.

Serenity 8/10 Netflix

The crew of the ship Serenity try to evade an assassin sent to recapture telepath River.

This is the movie follow on from the acclaimed 2002-2003 FireFly TV series. For which I also gave an 8/10.

Very enjoyable.

Sniper: Assassin's End 5/10 Netflix

Legendary sniper Thomas Beckett and his son, Special Ops Sniper Brandon Beckett, are on the run from the CIA, Russian Mercenaries, and a Yakuza-trained assassin with sniper skills that rival both legendary sharp shooters..

Very predicable. Snooze worthy.

Tenet 7/10 Netflix

Armed with only one word, Tenet, and fighting for the survival of the entire world, a Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time.

Pay attention otherwise you loose the plot. That is what happens with time travel.

Bullet Train is legally available in New Zealand through Google Movies, Apple TV and Microsoft Store.

There's no need to advertise a movie is from "alternate sources" if it's legally available.

' The Last Of The Mohicans ' was released in 1992, one of my favourite Action/Adventure movies though... set in 1757 during the French & Indian wars.

Moonfall 3/10

Just awful. The Moon decides to come crashing to Earth. If it could have guaranteed a direct hit on Hollywood, particularly the studio that made this howler, it may have been worth it.

Good actors that probably realised what a dog the movie was and just started “phoning it in”. Even the special effects weren’t that great.

Elvis 8/10

A nicely paced bio-pic of the “King of Rock&Roll”. Probably made for the generation that was alive when he was big. I was never really a fan but enjoyed the story and music all the same.
Just like the movies of Elton John and Freddie Mercury I’m sure this was “based on a true story” and tweaked here and there. So not a documentary.

Watched Bullet Train last night with the family.

Surprisingly entertaining and not too graphic (compared to The Boys & House of Dragons and the like).

A really enjoyable, if not even remotely believable romp on a train. There was even a Snake on a Train, for comedic and plot purposes.

I very enjoy. 8/10

Pixie | Netflix | 4/10

An Irish version of Lock, Stock and TSB, but nowhere near as funny, fast paced or well acted given some of the cast.

THOR: Love and Thunder  (Disney Plus) Film 4/10: A/V 9/10

The film looks great in Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos with IMAX scenes, and I really enjoyed that element of it. The film itself though, is embarrassingly poor. Chris Hemsworth must cringe when he watches the mighty Thor reduced to a one line comedian, and a corny and childish one at that.

Watching the credits (yes I did limp to the end of it) I saw the dreaded caption that "Thor will be back". I sincerely hope not, unless Taika Waititi is relieved of the director's role. His comic input was used sparingly, and it  worked in "Ragnarok", but is totally over the top in this offering.
