Avater way of the water, highly disapointing. Seemed very dragged out to me, cgi graphics were very evident is some scenes. Got the feeling I was in a game in some scenes. Story line was good, but disapointing overall.

Are movie recommendation requests allowed? I am looking for something like Crash (2004) where you get a bunch of different seemingly separate perspectives on an event, or different things happening, that are brought together in the end?

Spider Man: Across the Spiderverse

Very good sequel to the first movie - Spider Man: Into the Spiderverse.

Visually stunning with great art work. Don't be put off by the fact it's animated - they can do so much more with art styles than in a live action movie.

Apparently they have released multiple versions of this movie everywhere with small changes in dialogue and scenes.

My kids (teens) went and saw this and were disappointed with the end (or lack thereof).
Thoughts?

it was only part 1 of a 2 part story . this is why i dont watch any marvel based movie , i cant be bothered learning the back story of the universe and how it all intertwines just to understand the movie

My wife gave up on Secret Invasion (TV Series) after 3 minutes for that very reason. She's not so invested in the Marvel Universe that she even understood what a Skrull was and why Nick Fury had been off-world.

Which is a fair comment in general for the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) but this spider man movie is Sony's and not connected (except for one throwaway reference).

You do need to watch the first Spider Man: Into the Spiderverse and have some inkling as to who Peter Parker is but the focus is on Miles Morales - a different spider person.

There is an interesting story about why the film rights for one of Marvel's biggest super heroes (Spider Man) is actually owned by Sony and how Marvel had to come to a shared custody arrangement with Sony to use Spider Man in their MCU.

https://www.npr.org/2023/06/07/1180778283/spider-man-sony-marvel-dispute

Incidently, Marvel also sold off the Fantastic Four and X-Men film rights to Fox and only got them back when Disney (who bought Marvel in 2009) bought Fox in 2019.

It's a trilogy of movies, not a 20ology

It's all about the multiverse.
It's like asking who is SpiderGwen, or who is SpiderPig?

Also - Gwen Stacy vs Mary Jane Watson (MJ). What's that all about?

Different storylines, different comic series, different universes at times.

I really think I’m done with superhero movies. I really enjoyed most of the MCU movies up to Endgame and thoroughly enjoyed the Nolan Batman movies. Batman Begins is a personal favourite.

Since then I’ve hated the ones I’ve bothered to watch. The combination of badly made movies and multiverse plots has meant I’m just not interested anymore. They aren’t performing financially anymore so hopefully they become far less a feature of movie making and we get some more original stories.

Indiana Jones.......  saw the latest one last night.

Overall thoughts, felt a bit slow to get going, was hoping for another fun ride like Last Crusade.....   but no....   they seemed to try to pull in the best bits from past movies into one, but it just didn't gel so well. It was enjoyable, but personally think they should've stopped at Last Crusade.

6/10

If you want a couple of minor spoilers, feel free to view.  One of them you'll probably cheer about like I did. ;) https://pastebin.com/eS9MnjY3

Agree Last Crusade should have been the last crusade, but at least this one reckoned with the crappy Crystal Skull, and besides atrocious CGI (which is getting more common lately - I assume because of ill treatment of the artists) it was quite enjoyable in comparison to the previous one.

Agree on Indy, went on Saturday night. Felt far more part of the series than the Crystal Skull did, but last crusade will be a favourite in the series for me.

Not really  - Across the multiverse is the sequel to Into the Spiderverse which you should watch first. It's a follow-up and there's been plenty of precedent. Does Terminator 2 make sense if you haven't watched The Terminator? How about The Empire Strikes Back? LOTR: The Two Towers, John Wick 2, Horrible Bosses 2 - all need you to watch the first movie.

It's very different to the MCU - your point which I do agree with actually, where they intertwine not only the need to watch the previous movies but also movies set in the same universe as well as the tv shows. It is exhausting but the Sony non-MCU Spider Man universe is still relatively unconnected (aside from direct sequels) for now.

BTW Miles Morales is a new spider man - his introduction, backstory, family and origin story are all in the first movie. There's no prior connection to any other marvel superhero aside from Peter Parker.
