You're Cordially Invited

A made-for-Streaming comedy starring Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon.

He is a solo father and is planning his daughter's wedding.
She is a single woman, career-driven and planning the wedding of her younger sister.

It's inoffensive and makes 2 hours pass by faster than a wet wait in a  bus stop.

A Working Man - 5/10

Typical formulaic Jason Statham movie. Exactly what you expect it to be. Has a reasonable cast, though mostly just bit parts (almost cameos) which is a bit of a waste to be honest.

Den of Thieves: Pantera 7/10

Big Nick is back on the hunt in Europe and closing in on Donnie, who is embroiled in the treacherous world of diamond thieves and the infamous Panther mafia, as they plot a massive heist of the world's largest diamond exchange.

Very enjoyable 2½ hrs. We also enjoyed the first movie in this series. Den of Thieves 7/10

Apparently there is a third one on the way.

Geektastic:

Captain America - Brace New World

Well, that’s a couple of hours of my life I won’t get back. Could have read something useful instead.

I am a bit late to this movie since I did not see it in the theatre and only watched it on Prime at a friend's. Well I watched the first 5 minutes but after the new Captain America was in his first fight doing his Iron Man impersonation with the shield and wings thing I stopped watching, So I only wasted 5 minutes of my life :-) I think my friend regretted his rental.

Alien Romulus 7.5/10

I like the Alien movies but I'm not a typical fan of the well used trope where something is chasing the main characters (ala Aliens, Friday 13th, Terminator, Jason, Duel) but I quite enjoyed this worthy addition to the Aliens franchise.

Looking forward to a sequel.

It's available to stream free on Pluto.TV but since that service is not available in NZ you will need to find a way to change your location. This is left as an exercise for the reader :-)

Havoc - Netflix - 6/10

⚠️ graphically ultra violent, barrels of blood, very high body count ⚠️

After a drug deal gone wrong, a bruised detective must fight his way through the criminal underworld to rescue a politician's estranged son, unraveling a deep web of corruption and conspiracy that ensnares his entire city.

Tom Hardy at his gory best. Yes, he is currently being typecast in the same mould as Jason Statham.

Based on the timeline the sequel is technically Aliens (1986).

Saw a couple of movies over the last week or so - some were quite different to what we'd normally watch, others more mainstream.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die  - the latest instalment of the Bad Boys franchise starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. Generic and action-packed just like the others. 5/10

Poolman - quirky and offbeat comedy starring Chris Pine as a poolman at a Los Angeles motel, with the weird and whacky tenants, of Danny DeVito and Annette Bening, along wirh Jennifer Jason Leigh and John Ortiz amongst others.
Unusual, but somewhat funny in parts - a drama about many things, while not making a whole lot of sense.
I quite enjoyed it. 7/10

Jules - an offbeat and somewhat endearing dramedy about an older gentleman who ends up with an alien crashing into his flowerbed in his back garden.
Stars Sir Ben Kingsley and Jane Kurtin alongside Harriet Sansom-Harris.
Effectively, the trio befriend the alien (named Jules) and help it to get back home.
Slow, odd and quite a nice little diversion from the usual alien fare. 6/10

At least the Beekeeper had ridiculous puns. It really doesn't get more paint by number stupid than A Working Man.

i enjoyed this very well. although i did feel like Forest Whitaker and Tim Olyphant could have been used more.

and while i realise it's not everyone's cup of team, also giving 8.5/10 for The Conclave... which is quite timely. a concise (you get the feeling that there's a lot more that goes on) look at what happens when electing a new pope. among the best i've seen of Ralph Fiennes.
