I think this is a nice topic.

Not everyone here a geek, Only today, or maybe last night someone said they don't work in IT

We have many OT threads. Ive crossed swords with a few, but what I like is that on another unrelated topics, we agree. I give +1 they give +1. Here is it mature.

We can get our wet tea towels ready for 20 paces or agree elsewhere.

For me, that adds a HUGE amount of value in discussions, it matters not if we disagree, but Ive been here a while and there is a LOT of common sense. So while we see a LOT of bias on some topics, if we all happened to meet, I am 100% sure it would be all smiles

(But ill bring wet tea towels just in case :-)

Happy New Year

Robust discussions where I often learn new stuff (and hopefully I contribute something every now and then as well!).

Useful info from people 'in the know' (e.g. reps from telcos).

My Ubiqiuti WiFi is managed by a cloud controller kindly managed by a Geekzone member. Without Geekzone I would probably still be battling crap WiFi.

Thanks @freitasm!

What is this green thing of which you speak?

I love the wide range of content and generally robust discussions.

Having met some of you at GZ nights I know you’re all great peeps too!

I tend to avoid the overly political or heated conversations, I get tired of those, some people like to troll, and that gets out of hand.

but what I really love and why I visit geekzone daily (and usually have it open on one of my 3 monitors at most times) is the technology and fun things Ive learnt here.  I got started in home automation here, had lots of interactions about automated vacuums, heatpumps etc.  talks about home theatre pcs.

i like to play with toys so if anyone mentions a new toy here that i'd like, theyre usually a friend for life :)

It's a well managed site, and well moderated, so you can have an adult discussion. There's the off-topic for everything else.

It's a testament to the quality of moderation that companies feel confident enough that they can be officially represented here.

Which has been of benefit to me on more than one occasion.

Plus all the other expertise on tap here from all the gurus who contribute to this site.

For me there are many aspects but what it ultimately all comes down to is I enjoy the company. There are so many helpful and well-informed people here from whom I have learned so much. I have also discovered the existence of many useful things that I didn't previously know about. Geekzone is a permanent learning experience. I also enjoy the debates, though some do get out of hand, but that's what the moderators are for. Overall the tone here is very high. Again, it comes back to the company. Life would be less interesting without Geekzone.

The community; the New Zealand subreddit is horribly toxic where as Geekzone is more chilled out with zero drama and BS which makes the whole experience pleasant.

I just like helping people and have met some pretty awesome people from here. Without Geekzone I wouldn't be currently in the US on my way to CES next week.

There aren't many NZ-based communities (for tech or otherwise), and as mentioned above the few that exist are rather ridiculously toxic or filled with 14 year olds.

I lurk a lot more than post nowdays but I've always found Geekzone to be great for advice or even just a bit of a laugh.
