In my case I am ordering items that weigh rather less than 100 grams.
For the last four months, my shipping stats look like this:
Ebay: 16 orders all delivered correctly
AliX: 6 orders all delivered correctly
Amazon not using DPD: 5 orders all delivered correctly
Amazon with DPD: 5 orders all failed to deliver.
Very disappointing.

I've never had a failed delivery with DPD. They are slow , but always arrive.
Which is why I was annoyed that on a recent order where I upgraded my shipping to expedited and amazon sent it via dpd anyway! I did actually need this more quickly as it is a prescribed medicine for my son. (2 months supply is $7usd on amazon, 2 months supply from a NZ pharmacist is $120nzd).
My most recent order has taken the DPD conundrum to a new level. This time the DPD tracking number is not recognised by the WNDirect tracking system. It's not in their system.
I raised this with Amazon support, and they had no idea why that was occurring. In fact, the guy had no idea WNDirect even existed, let along that the WNDirect site is the only place one can get tracking data for the AW00... numbers shipped with "DPD". Keeping a long story short, I wrote another message to the supervisor ("Rox") who had weeks ago said she would personally take this whole DPD issue up with the shipping department, and would see it through to the end, and promptly vanished. I got a reply from another agent, who apologised, again assured me this would never happen again (like the 10+ reps I've spoken to in the past two months), and issued a refund on the shipping for this current order (US$30).
It's nice of them to give me shipping refund, without any request on my part. What will be even nicer is if this package actually turns up. Here's hoping. :-)
You can all moan about DPD, but CourierPost took 11 days to get a parcel from St Heliers to Henderson. I could have walked it there quicker.

I just happened to check the status of an Amazon order shipped via DPD; was delivered today, 4 days before it was supposed to be.
Do wish Amazon USA would take care when putting stuff in the box and actually making sure the tape sealing the box stays in place ... they need to learn from Amazon Japan
I got in touch with the folks at wnDirect.
Their CS rep said that their systems show that not one of my five amazon parcels ever came to them.
He says that they got the shipment data and thus the tracking numbers were issued but they never received the parcel.
Curious indeed.
For the record...
The most recent order, mentioned above, was due for delivery this Thursday. On Monday, I get notification it is being returned to the sender (Amazon) due to an issue with delivery. Amazon has issued a refund.
They seem to have no interest in actually finding out from WNDirect why so many orders have failed delivery.
I tracked my Amazon Package (DPD) with the website www.wndirect.com/tracking-dpd.php/ and it gave me lots of infomartion.
When it says Package Arrived at a Carrier Facility in the Amazon tracking you can get the FastWay NZ Number and track it on its way to New Zealand.
Look at this!

When Amazon promises they will not ship with DPD, that is a lie, they said that to me multiple times and packages shipped with DPD after thier promise. Comment here if they kept their promise.
Did you know Amazon has a partnership with DPD. I do not know how they use wnDirect/DPD as wnDirect and DPD do not have a US Presence. Maybe its USPS, nobody knows.
Comment down if you know.

What I was told, by an Amazon customer service rep I pushed for more information is this:
Amazon's contract is with wnDirect. wnDirect then uses DPD as the shipper (who then, as we know, hand packages off to Fastway for the NZ segment). I was also told that the packages go via the UK, and then from there to New Zealand.
I will add that when I gave wnDirect a list of give tracking numbers for packages that failed delivery, wnDirect informed me they never received this packages in the US. So they said to take the matter up with Amazon. The wnDirect person I was dealing with was under the impression the delivery was eventually aborted as undeliverable, because they didn't receive the packages.
this is my experience;

Maybe DPD are getting better? My last 2 deliveries with them were very quick, similar to DHL.
I have been ensuring that I choose items 'sold by' and 'delivered by' amazon. I think this can make a difference.

And, this would have delivered a day earlier if not for Easter Monday.
My previous delivery to this , was a couple of days slower which is still really good.
I got my first DPD shipment from Amazon. It went really well with a wet box and both packaging and product box crushed with a bit of white tape to hold the package together.
Amazon asked if I wanted to keep the chromebox and they would refund me $21 "So that you do not want to return us the item" or a return and replacement which I now have to wait a week or two for because they don't have the item in stock anymore. So now I have wasted 2 weeks waiting and I have to keep waiting with nothing to show for it.

Sorry to read that.
Although, I am amazed there was tape applied to the box! I've had two come in that sorely needed tape. One had so little of the Amazon tape on it, I was astounded anything was still in the box. It was basically completely open. In my experience, DPD (delivering from US to NZ via UK) sucks.
