The Spinoff has a great Mothers' Day wishlist from actual mothers. If you feel sucked in by this commercially-driven phoney holiday, you can at least find some useful suggestions here. Highly recommended before you rush out to buy a useless Chinese gadget that will either be ignored or will break.

I can't include a link for it because the censor is freaking out. I'm sure you can work it out for yourself:

Sorry, didn't think of that. Not something I normally use.

My mother used to get saucepans, kitchen gadgets and new vacuum cleaners from us when my Dad bought our presents when we were children!

I think my wife would want sleep, time to herself, and wine. Instead I bought her some stuff ;)

I would reword your post thus...

...If you feel sucked in by this commercially hijacked  holiday,....

We have never been into gifts as such for mothers day or fathers day it has always been a family meal day. Luckily our sons inherited their mothers great cooking skills and tend to do the cooking on those days.

Why?

I am a mum. And a nana too now.

I do NOT want my husband to buy anything. I am NOT his b*****y mother.

Son does not buy me things. Fine with me. I don't want a b****y cakemixer either. Or anything else.

I agree with (most) of the list.

A day off. Not, do nothing and have to do it all the next day. A real day off.

In fact in the 39 years of being married, I finally got (mostly) the only birthday present I always ask for. The day off.

Well I got 2 days off.

Sort of.

Son went away for a few days. Grandchild (Here on weekends and holidays) was at a friends. The friends mum is my friend. So...she kept her an extra day while son was away.

That left husband. But I did a minimal dinner (twice) and basically did whatever I damn well liked for 2 days.

It was great. Heaven.

Brilliant.

Awesome. Why don't people listen and give you the free, costs nothing at all thing? What we want.

What I would like is a day where somebody else did all the household chores (my half+) I am normally stuck with!! Vacuum, clean the bathroom, do all the dishes, tidy up etc! I get so sick of doing it day in day  out.

The rule in our house is that the kids don't need to buy presents (they seem to anyway because they want to), but, do some jobs, don't fight, breakfast in bed, maybe going out for dinner if we feel like it.  And , just be nice to mum all day and say yes mum even if you don't agree.
