did asb bank or ird stuff up with enrolling this dude into kiwisaver?:

http://tvnz.co.nz/view/page/488124/1885313

watch the video. it says the 17 year old boy's dad enrolled him into kiwisaver by going to the asb bank. the 17 year old boy was not there, only his dad was.

how can a father enroll his 17 year old son into kiwisaver without the son's permission? the son wasnt at the bank to sign any forms, only his dad was. his dad may of had his son's ird number and bank account, but his son wasn't there.

i don't know who stuffed up. maybe asb bank or the ird but surely a parent cannot signup their child to kiwisaver without the child signing a form.

does this mean a random person can go into a bank with someones ird number and bank account and sign them up for kiwisaver without a person's permission?

Do you possibly think that this has to do with the fact that the son was under 18? And the father, as his guardian, was acting "on behalf of"?

Children can be joined to KiwiSaver effectively from birth I believe (or is it 5), the parent/guardian just arranges an IRD number for them.  Anybody under 18 is a child in the legal world and thus if they want to join then thier parent/guardian needs to sign on the dotted line.

Nothing suspicious, no stuff up at all.
