Taking the kids to Harry Potter World at Universal Studios, LA.  It was warm, but the decor made it seem wintery.

This would have to be my trip to Queenstown in July 1984. My holiday followed on from a conference and started on a Saturday with a champagne breakfast at the Skyline gondola. This was followed by a trip to Coronet Peak to enjoy the fresh powder snow and the skiing was magnificent, without a cloud in the sky. At lunch the Volvo International ski team demonstrated their acrobatic prowess and the display was truly awesome. Everything about that day was perfect and for a brief moment I felt that time had stopped and I was in heaven.

Gold Coast is a pretty nice spot to be, if you're from freezing cold Christchurch.

My bike's damn uncomfortable first thing in the morn...

Cheers,  Duncan.

About ten years ago SWMBO and I went on an expedition cruise from southern Argentina to the Antarctic for 2-1/2 weeks. There were kayaks on board for the first 16 people on a ‘first in, first served’ basis (plus a surcharge). We were lucky enough to get a double kayak for the duration.

Kids wanted a white Christmas so headed North.  Upset the UK family by leaving on 22nd Dec to head to Norway, but hey, they couldn't guarantee the weather and the remit was walking out of the accommodation into the snow.  Mission accomplished.

climbing Mount Ruapehu and sleeping in a snow cave (which was terrifying!!) - you can see some of us digging the cave below. This was part of a 5 day advanced mountaineering course

One of my favourite winter holidays would have to be going up north to the Bay of Islands last July with a University group I met last year. The place was beautiful to wake up to with a few treks for hiking. The Airbnb also had kayaks and mountain bikes so activities in the water and the wilderness was amazing. Was perfect to make new group of friends as a uni student.

My favourite winter holiday was in Niue with my beloved. Of course, winter in Niue is about 24-27 degrees Celsius so there was neither snow nor skiing. But there was R&R aplenty, cocktails at happy hour, snorkelling to die for and, on Sundays, there is the Washaway Bar and Cafe Click to see full size

Washaway operates on an honesty system - just grab your beers/wine/etc, jot down what you've taken in the book, pay for it when you're done. And food is kind of similar: write down your order, the chef gives you a number and, in due course, the tucker turns up. Great fish and chips in a relaxed atmosphere where you can watch the action off Avatele beach. If you're lucky you can even see the spinner dolphins leaping around. Of course, if I'd had a Huawei Move 3e smartphone I could be posting such photo right here (hint hint).

Cheers

Best winter holiday I had is very hard but I must say this year has been pretty good, bought myself a present from Christchurch and drove to Dunedin and then back to Picton and the Wairarapa in it in 4 days, and didn't miss a beat. A 1947 Bentley MkVI, 70 years young and lovely to drive. So pretty nice winter present and holiday all in one. (Tried to upload a photo but for some reason couldn't, sorry!)

Yasawa Islands we're pretty impressive, what was also amazing was the 3g coverage circa 8 years ago - the middle of nowhere and good enough to Skype from the boat.
