https://sp.chorus.co.nz/product-update/chatsford-retirement-village-fibre-ready-join-fibre-market-day

So i can't help but post about this one considering chorus have gone and notified it out...

Chorus have delivered fibre to every unit in Chatsford Retirement Village.

Now i'll give it to chorus, intact fibre connections from a support point of view means chorus have to do very little for what may be short term service.

I'd expect IW is already installed, intention would be CX plugs in modem, Provider orders product and bang it just works. no issues with MDF missjumpers or anything.

As it's fibre, there would be reduced assure faults that are on chorus's network.

but did chorus really need to deliver fibre through a retirement village ahead of say, where depend is more likely to be?

Short of upselling, i'd expect all of these do be 30/10 connections.. or even voice only ports!

Although it looks like its been a while coming.....

This was Spring 2017....

https://www.chatsford.co.nz/assets/newsletters/spring17.pdf

"In our Christmas edition of the Chatsford Chat I mentioned that installation of ultrafast broadband fibre to Chatsford’s doorstep was scheduled occur in June 2017. This fibre has, indeed, now been installed to the roadway outside our site. In preparation for this, in late April we had a Chorus company, Universal Communications Group (or UCG), undertake a weeklong site inspection to assess what is involved in connecting fibre to each town house and apartment. While internet over fibre is very fast, the process of getting a large scale connection set up is clearly not so fast – we are still awaiting confirmed details of the installation project. To be fair, UCG did indicate that Chatsford’s 267 homes would make it one of the largest multi-dwelling installation projects in the country. So there is obviously quite a bit of design work involved."

Like offer it sure, but to announce it as a big thing just seems... to focus on the wrong things?

What's that you say young man, "we have fibre now"? Of course we do! I had it this morning for breakfast!

Some retirement villages are fibre only.

Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their xDSL broadband network faster. If your still stuck on ADSL or VDSL, why not spend from $150 on a master filter install to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?

Copper there is 8~12mbit with a few clearly bad preforming lines dipping down to the 2mbits based on chorus's latest mapping...

as a new build going fibre i totally agree with, as do i for ease of support. just not the PR really...

What's the bet it's a perfect fibre install, all underground no capping too ;)

These villages better have fibre in them... oneday I'll perhaps need a decent connection whislt living in one....

Edit: but by that time, will a gig speed be like "grand parent speed"?

Maybe I'll buy a unit there since we won't be getting fibre at all!
