I enjoyed the penultimate episode. Predicted a few of the arcs back in the first and second seasons. Lots of foreshadowing in this show.

YMMV

Mixed feelings about the latest episode

As I was watching i went from 7 seasons rooting for the Dragon Queen to having her the most hated character behind Cersei after 1 episode. I was thinking the writers have destroyed what took 7 seasons to build up in 1 hour. Then I remembered what Varys said "Every time a Targaryen is born, the gods toss a coin and the world holds its breath." and it explained it, she is just as mad as her father. Still hate her though.

Cersei got off too light imo and she deserved to die painfully at the hands of her enemies and not buried by the city.

The Hound and The Mountain scene I enjoyed.

All and all I have mixed feelings about how this played out, definitely didn’t see Daenerys destroying Kings Landing and turning out to be the mad Queen.

Season 8, so far I don’t know what to think, my immediate thought is I hate it because I feel it’s rushed but at the same time I need to process it all once it’s done and the dust has settled.

1 to go.

They've been foreshadowing this outcome since the first episodes. Burn them all has been a recurring quote and theme. The series is called a song of ice and fire. It was always going to end this way. Seems to be GRRM's original ending too.

Saw it coming, Varys saw it coming. Tyrion seems stupid - of all people he should have seen it coming.

Question is, who survives next week?

Dany will make it to the Iron Throne - there was a foreshadowing of her in the destroyed throne room. Will she keep it?

I imagine she will want the Starks and Jon Snow gone. Will they let it happen to them?

No way does Dany get to keep the throne. I am still thinking Arya or Sansa.
I hope Dany tries to smoke Jon but Te dragon either refuses or has no effect. Then Dany is forced to realise he is a Targaryen. Either way Jon does not get the throne and likely dies.

Mixed feelings about the episode, a lot was well done but Jamie and Cersei's end seemed a bit lame and Euron ending up on that beach was silly. He should have just died on the ship, or been missing presumed dead.

Wow, that episode was amazing!!

I can't believe they killed Rob AND Catelyn at the wedding! And his direwolf too!

I'm only at season 3, but if the show stays this good I bet when this all ends it will be incredible.

I remember thinking that 6 years ago. Didn't really pan out.

My gut tells me that she makes it to the Iron Throne - she goes all "Jon won't live under my reign" and then Arya kills her, Jon kills Greyworm, he takes the throne and Arya ends up the Hand - and King/Queen slayer.

Sansa and Tyrion end up living happily ever after in Winterfell and Jon rejects the Iron Throne and builds a new one from Dragon bones.

At some stage Dany (pre-death) tries to have him burnt alive (Dracarys) and he simply shrugs it off, because he's a Targaryan.

All in all, it's a massive bloodletting and a happily ever after ending.

The fantastic chemistry between Jon and Dany really helps sell the internal conflict he is now facing. The complete lack of chemistry between them makes Jon's devotion to Dany incredible hard to swallow.

EDIT: Typo

Just popping in to say, thank <bleep> the dragon kicked some ass in this episode. They went a little over the top with the 'nuclear' weapon analogy with all the ash everywhere, but that was just fine with me.

I'm totally team Mad Queen - may the dragon eat them all and rule!

seeing the mixed reactions has been interesting. Probably a good thing there's only 1 episode left.

I was most disappointed that Cersi got to die in the arms of her lover, not at the hands of her enemies.

I sort of felt the mercy thing wasn't going to hold, but it was horrific nonetheless. Varys dying was done differently to what I had thought but I didn't have a specific thought. Pretty clear that Jon now sees Dany for what she actually is, and in my view will accept the throne to stop her ruling which he now sees even he, a bumbling fool could do better.  It may be he dies stopping her. Given how easily he was killed earlier seems unlikely fire wouldn't stop him, but I wonder if she gets the dragon to kill him with fire, Dragon refuses or hesitates and he tells the dragon to chew on her and it does. If Dany dies I don't see a way for the dragon to survive so perhaps they both die together.

Tyrion betrayed Danys and he warned him and it's the second time, so if she catches up with him, it's pretty likely he's toast. The key to his survival is to only meet up with her when she isn't in a position to end him.

Arya survived so I think she has a significant part to play next week. Also, the three-eyed raven didn't even feature, so he almost totally has to have a pivotal role next week.

I have felt this season was very rushed, but I'll still miss GOT when it's gone.

The thing is though, was Daenerys wrong in her understanding?

She saw the outcome of what would happen if Jon told Sansa/Arya his secret.

Varys betrayed her by supporting Jon.
Jon betrayed her by telling his family the truth against her wishes.
Tyrion failed her by spreading Jon's secret, and convincing her (against her better judgement) that his brother was done with Cersei.

Is it really paranoia when they are all out to get you?

Tyrion was too kind hearted - he was doing everything he could to avoid the spilling of innocent blood. Daenerys understood the need to attack the city and to not show "mercy" because it would have left Cersei in control.
She could have stopped when the bells rang.  She did not.

Why not?

Because she thought Tyrion was betraying her again?  The Bells were ringing and she promised him she would stop if so.
Did she see this all as necessary? Where is the borderline between greatness and madness?  Was she pushed over the line?  Is this all Jon's fault?

I was glad the dragon finally did something.

Then it went OTT.

From being almost impotent for the first four episodes, the Dragon turned into a superweapon.

its annoying how they keep changing the dragons strength. One minute they're really weak and getting picked off one by one by the night king then one minute one dragon is all it takes to burn down an entire city. its so inconsistent.

FTFY

She can wipe out the naval fleet last night, but couldn't a week before with 2 of the freaking dragons! Insane.
