Not to worry, it will take off once the story hits Seven Sharp.

"Bridie Campbell, 24, a student, said she used an inheritance from her father who died two years ago"

She probably wishes she had a father instead.

Give a little to be donated to cancer charity.

I have no sympathy for her but man losing 60k would do some damage to my mental health that’s for sure, I thought I lost $20 the other day and I was livid! turns out it was in my jacket... kinda felt like I gained $20 after I had written it off.

Fred99:

This happened all over the place during what was a slight contraction in the market back in the early '90s.

If the completed apartment had a true market value greater than what she'd contracted to pay, she'd have been able to get short term finance to enable her to flip it.  I'd have lent her the cash myself, for a decent cut of the gains.

One could assume from this that the true value of the apartment in the market today is more that $60k less than the contract price.

Heavily leveraged speculators who thought they were on to a sure thing often take big tumbles.

If there's a lesson in this, it's that some heat has come out of the market, and if stories like this become more common, then the construction/developers are going to go for a huge slide.

I'd still love to know what the mother really had to do with it.

Story to me seems like a case of wanting to flip the property.. A "safe" deal because property prices were going up, the mother gets the commission, and you can then sell the property quickly after it's complete. Obviosuylt eh plan had multiple points where it could fail, including the fact a 24yr old student clearly has no way to fund a $600k mortgage.
