Just chatting with Amazon service rep now. All they are willing to do is refund the shipping costs.

Did you make sure that you emphasized this was a charge added after you confirmed the order and that it is not valid for your order date which is prior to the tax being applicable?

I tried to insinuate that it was quite fraudulent to take more funds from a credit card than the shopper agreed to however i did it by asking them to explain why they did this instead of outright accusing them.

I asked if they could explain why additional payment that i did not accept or agree to at checkout was added later with zero feedback to me.

I also asked if they could explain why this tax was being charged to me when it is not applicable to my order which was placed prior to December.

Not sure what approach you used but thats how i did it

After a little more pressure, I received the refund.

I explained that a contract has been formed when I had agreed to the price of the goods that Amazon were supplying by completing the checkout process and that Amazon had confirmed the contract by way of sending the confirmation email with the agreed price.

Same actually, despite the fact it clearly states that due to the value of the shipment a signature will be required.

On the plus side, my item wasn't tagged anywhere and I got my son a notebook at an absolute STEAL.

Yeah mine was signature required, too. The tracking site says: "Signed for by: MCP028 ATL"

Pretty sure thats not my name.

Are you sure you or somebody else at your residence now or previous don't have an ATL setup with the courier in question?  ATL = Authority To Leave

Contact the courier in question to check, and get it removed (if one exists) if you don't want to have an ATL any more.

Hopefully just because your item was close to $1000, wonder how much the new regime will slow parcel delivery's down with tracking the value of all items sent here from each company.

Mine was also left on doorstep (though door was wide open at the time, must have not heard them knock) - it was delivered after 6pm on Sunday despite the fact I didn't pay for expedited shipping or anything ... I would guess they are just working flat tack in the lead up to xmas so aren't going to wait around if you don't answer real quick.  Not trying to excuse it just that would be my guess.

I also wrote a polite complaint email to amazon who offered to refund shipping but not tax similar to the above; fortunately the shipment was pretty small so the shipping cost was pretty much exactly the same as the GST amount.  They haven't yet actioned it though...

Called DHL and asked - the problem isn't an ATL, the problem is Amazon apparently never sent it signature required. I think he's right, theres nothing on the package that asks for a signature.

Just went to buy something from AliExpress and noticed an extra charge on there.  They are now adding GST, I wonder if the NZ Govt is ever going to see that.

Bit of a bummer.

I was wondering if the returning passenger concession had changed in line with the new import rules? I would have assumed that it would also be $1000 but the customs webpage is two and a half years old and refers to the $700 limit before being charged. I am heading out next week so may try and ask customs at the airport.

I presume those rules wouldn't have changed. Those rules are different for a reason - theres no loss in local business by you buying stuff when you're out of the country. Would've heard something if those rules changed.

Evening all, I have been reading through the forum and still don’t know what to expect.

Currently have a parcel (yarn) from Australia in transit - value $520 NZ, I have another order that the store is holding for a few days so I don’t get hit by duty as she puts it - great.  Second parcel is valued at $240 NZ.

Even if they arrive at the same time will I get caught with GST (as under the new $1,00 limit), I have paid Aussie GST as many retailers don’t remove it for overseas purchasers.

I doubt this retailer is registered for the new GST collection as she would float under the $60,000 radar - if I could buy from NZ I would but not available here.

Thanks.

You should not get asked for GST, both packages should, hopefully, go straight through for you.
