So is the freight charges excluded from the GST grab or not, customs say no but it seems that Youshop is adding the shipping cost to the total on their website.

"The NZ$1000 threshold is based on the customs value of the goods. This means transport and insurance costs are excluded when determining if GST needs to be charged"

Or does this mean something else?

Am about to test youshop and the new policy.

Have had to send my radar unit back to the US as its faulty. If they send a replacement or repair, they will only send to a US address so have used youshop. Custom's website says no GST is chargeable on repair / warranty replacements provided proof is provided (which I have kept copies of all things) but I wonder what youshops policy is

Interesting. I got charged GST on ten year old, well used mountainbike part on ebay. I'd naively assumed GST didn't apply to used goods.
Nonetheless I need the part and the manufacturer no longer makes it so I had no choice.

Looks like NZGameshop just silently added GST to all their prices without expressly showing the GST breakdown.

Nice one.

Note for others, this new Download Invoice button is next to Confirm Goods Received button on the order details page and when you hit it a dialog opens, just click the "Receipt" link hiding at the bottom of the introductory paragraph, no need to enter anything or click the submit button.

DHL has just emailed/SMS me to say they will deliver my uk parcel (lathe parts) today which is great.

Bit puzzled that they didn't hold it until I paid the gst like all the other times.... invoice from uk for 350 pounds lists all the prices as vat free and none of my credit cards have got gst payments on them.

I wonder if they are going to bill the gst afterwards ??

No. DHL are not responsible for collecting GST, the seller is. If the order is over $1000, DHL will probably collect this on behalf of Customs unless the invoice shows this has already been collected by the seller. In that case the seller is not required to collect it.

DHL have texted to say product delivered. I'm at work

The uk company I doubt has $nz50k worth business with nz.

So if customs aren't going to retrospectively bill me, I very much hope that customs aren't going to send a bill to uk company as I expect for such small business they will just say flag dealing with nz....

Under $1000 NZD, and seller not registered (nor on marketplace or sending via reshipper) so no GST to pay, IRD won't be sending you, or them, a bill.

Huh. This should be interesting. I wonder if it works on historical purchases. I have purchased goods for business in the past from AliExpress and they wouldn't/couldn't supply an Invoice. This could be useful if it is possible to finally get a GST Invoice out of them.

No only orders 1st December and after have the button (which makes sense since before 1st December no GST was paid so they can't give a GST receipt for those).

I was hoping for a half assed implementation. Good to know moving forward at least!

I had some parcels arrive at Youshop after the 1st. I had to update each parcel with the US value (including US shipping cost, which I thought was weird, but was zero for me anyway) and also upload a copy of the invoice.

Lots of threatening messages stating that if you lie about the value you'll get prosecuted for $250k etc it was a bit OTT I thought.

GST was calculated and I had to pay for this as part of the cost to ship to NZ.
