richms:

That is NZ Posts interpritation of it, the others have a different one. There is no movement from any of the others to do anything about it and AU have not had any movement with that. Its no different to me going into walmart overseas, buying something and then going to a FedEx office and posting it to myself. Im both the exporter and the importer.

That's their interpretation of it because that's the correct interpretation - and Australia has had movement. Many reshippers now do collect and remit Australian GST including Shipito who are one of the largest.

rugrat:

By obliterate their business do you mean stop the goods from being delivered to an innocent New Zealander who has done nothing wrong and is now out of pocket.

Exactly that. The mere threat is enough to force most reshippers to Australia to register and collect GST.

Geektastic:

Ah. Thanks.

So if I order a new laptop from overseas (just an example) for the business, would the same thing apply?

If it's under $1000 landed yes, otherwise no and you have to simply claim it on your return.

Yakuza18: To be honest, in Australia you don't have this sinister circle where the majority earn low wages. The salaries there are amazing

I'm sorry, but this statement is ridiculously uninformed. The majority absolutely earn low wages - many of them engaged under exploitative and in fact totally illegal contracts which pay them less than legal entitlements. Housing makes Auckland look positively affordable in most major cities. The poverty line is moving up so quickly that the number of people earning a living wage is at an all time low. The only saving grace is that unlike NZ, superannuation is not inclusive in the minimum wage.

My preorder for a UHD Bluray was cancelled with no notification. I just logged on to see if it had shipped (due for release a couple of days ago) and the order was cancelled.

I had an pre-order with Amazon UK. It was due for release on the 2nd. A day or two after there was stock (15 units available), but my package was still unsent. A few days after that the shipping time changed to 1-4 weeks. I queried this and was told they were still trying to source the product. A couple of days ago the site stated 1-4 months and the added extras for the inital pressing were removed from their listing. I cancelled the order and ordered from another store at a higher price.

I'll be very annoyed if I don't get the initial pressing with the slip cover and booklet given I ordered this in September and Amazon clearly had stock available to order and chose to sell it to other people rather than honour their NZ presales.

This experience aside, I always seem to come out on top whenever there is an issue with an Amazon order.

We are unable to ship non-digital items to New Zealand shipping addresses. Please choose a shipping address that is not in New Zealand to proceed. Some restrictions may still apply depending on the item.

You can also visit amazon.com to access millions of products for delivery to New Zealand.

😒

I got a similar thing today when I tried to buy an LP Record from Amazon.com in the US.  They said they couldn't ship to my NZ Address. When I set my NZ address it said his item ships to New ZealandLearn more Yes you can still buy LP records  but this one isn't available on CD.  Ended up shipping it to YouShop.  Anyone got an email address from Amazon.com to ask why??  The chat bot is useless..

Was the item sold by Amazon ("Ships from and sold by Amazon.com") or a marketplace seller?

Many marketplace sellers won't ship internationally. Products "Sold by ?? and Fulfilled by Amazon" will be available for international shipping.

Thanx for the reply .  It says  "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com in easy-to-open packaging."  so I guess from Amazon them selves.

I haven't had that with any of my purchases. I'd be interested in hearing the reason for not being able to deliver to us if they reply.

Same thing just happened to me. I logged into my (UK) account ("wasn't this supposed to have dispatched by now?") and found it cancelled. Not impressed... but Mighty Ape has it in their Christmas sale for a few dollars cheaper!

Just in case anyone was wondering, I wrote to Amazon Japan about this.

They'll never ship to NZ again because our government arbitrarily believes our country actually has everything we want and we should support the virtually non-existent domestic market and their inflated prices solely because they're afraid of being undercut by people importing products (wherein doing so is still cheaper most of the time).

It's not like I've never used a proxy before, but it's still a pain in the ass. Probably over 80% of what I buy isn't even available in the country to begin with and never will be, so I still don't mind using a proxy and paying 15% on top of that if I have to.

Anyone had any luck receiving a preorder placed before this change took effect?

I have a DVD that i preordered back in September that is due for release at the end of this month.

Have been told by two AmazonUK  CSR that my order will ship because I placed the order before the change happened.

Yet so many people on here have been having their orders cancelled i don't have 100% faith in what amazon are telling me.
