I think the number of parcels that comes from China is much higher than from NZ to China. So I don't think nzpost does it for free.
China post parcels seems to be delivered. Cainiao and SunYou is complete rubbish. I have around 4 of them now stuck, saying arrived in destination country for the last 3 months. Avoid using these careers.
I also purchased one item using epacket after lockdown, still saying - "Departure country of origin" for the last 1 month
Just done a quick search about this and found
---------------
he Treaty of Bern was signed on October 9, 1874, establishing what was then known as the General Postal Union.[9]
The treaty provided that:
------------------------------------------------
Looks like NZ Post does delivery all the Aliexpress packages for free
gregmcc:
The treaty provided that:
- There should be a uniform flat rate to mail a letter anywhere in the world
- Postal authorities should give equal treatment to foreign and domestic mail
- Each country should retain all money it has collected for international postage.
Lots of use of the word should. At least we've established that NZ Post is in breach of #2, with a 5 day international mail delivery target (that they can't even keep to), compared to a 3 day target for domestic packages.
I'm starting to compile a picture of how the shipping system works and I think most of the people who have posted are right...
The first big holdup is the package going to a freight forwarder in China... they will only put it on the plane or boat if the price is right... i.e they can make a profit.
And
Once it gets to N.Z... N.Z post will only pick up from the freight forward company when they have capacity to do so.
So the idea that I had a couple of months ago of the halcyon days where "the mail must get through" and "the oldest package goes first" or "first in first served" seem to no longer exist.
Another key piece is that when the tracking says "accepted by last mile carrier" that just means the freight forwarder is in possession... it doesn't actually tell you what country the package is in! This is the only logical way to explain why it can be in possession of the last mile carrier for months and months.
I've also had stuff delivered long after I gave it up as lost, something ordered just before Covid19 locked down China turned up about four months later. The only time I've had something lost in transit, which has been pretty rare, was long before Covid19.
I have noticed this post in reddit - https://www.reddit.com/r/Aliexpress/comments/hlpuw2/china_via_zambia_via_uzbekistan_via_us/
When I am tracking LP00168539464776 it shows new number UY144122408CZ. CZ is Czech republic.
I think my parcel stuck somewhere between Czech Republic and Tanzania

Seems odd enough that there's probably a much simpler explanation. If you look at the "From:" at the left of the photo it's come from Turkestan (Kazakhstan), so possibly shipped from a warehouse there. The Zambia is underneath the Uzbekistan sticker and there's another one under that, so it looks like a reused envelope/bag. So something got ordered from Aliexpress, shipped from a warehouse in Kazakhstan (on some Ali items you can specify Russia as the shipping source, possibly this extends to Kazakhstan, or it was something that comes from Kazakhstan in the first place), and they reused an old envelope.

richms:I had given up on this one, but today it had some movement
It's weird, sometimes stuff from China takes an enternity to arrive but it does eventually get here. I think I've mentioned before an order made last December that got here in June or so.

Interesting to see Sunyou tracking in NZ.

Normally they stop when package leaves China.
