My sister was on a benefit and whilst there wasn't much spare money her dog was well taken care of, always registered and vaccinated. She had a good relationship with her Vet who often sold her things at a discounted rate. She loved that dog and it was there during her tough times. She was possibly fortunate it didn't need much in the way of medical care, but I honestly believe she would have done anything for it.

You can save lot of money by owning a mongrel.  They tend to be hardier and require fewer vet visits.

Pretty sad comments in here regarding beneficiaries, dogs are great companions and can help people with all sorts of problems why should they not be able to have dogs? Yeah some people can treat their dogs poorly but I don’t think it relates to how much they earn.
