I am going out on a limb here and posting what I remember of Mike's message before it was removed.  Mods - feel free to edit as necessary.  Note this is NOT VERBATIM as I don't have a screenshot or copy, just what I read.

Mike posted that there was personal attack he received here on Geekzone. He asked for his account to be closed because of this.

That’s very bad but at least it’s not health-related.

freitasm:

@MikeB4 wasn't banned, he asked to have his account locked out. This means you can be free to discuss anything related to it as it was not a mod's decision.

The reason I asked is that a number of people were concerned that he left because of health issues. It wasn't health issues.

I am really sorry to hear that. It shouldn't have happened.

Without knowing the full details, it's a bit sad that they felt the need to leave so absolutely after this.

I would have thought that this sort of thing didn't reflect the community-at-large here; I have always felt the mods do a great job a keeping the toxicity in check, but if MikeB4 felt the severity warranted it, full power to them.

This is what I mean about posting on public forums.

There is none of the tone or back and forth dialogue that you get with face to face conversation.

Some of the people you don't like online may be quite likeable in real life. Firing off harsh words into the ether with no come back in the real world is a raw way to communicate.

You just have to have a thick skin and understand that.

GZ is certainly a better place with mikeb4 than without. I would hate to exist in a world where everyone thinks the same as everyone else. It would be very boring.

Hopefully he might return.

Physical health isn't the only health concern for many folks.   I don't know any details here, but I can see many conversations on Geekzone lately that would not be great for the mental health of some of us.

There are some infinitely intelligent and decent people on this forum who are very talented, yet humble enough to bend and give a hand up to those that need it. Kudos to them.

One-upmanship is cheap. 'Do you know who I am?' types with a degree in a certain subject thinking it gives them the right to belittle and crush a poster who questions, or has a differing world view than theirs only highlights their own inferiority.

Summed up - Be kind. You never know what troubles hide behind a pseudonym and what pain or harm harsh words can cause.

Is what you are doing here any better? You are very obviously being critical of one person but in a very passive aggressive way.

If you are going to be critical of someones behaviour at least have the decency to do it openly.

Of course that’s correct but in this case we know that Mike is frequently in pain and in a wheelchair so my first thought was for his physical health.

I'm not looking for a fight so will leave it here. I disagree completely that it was a general comment.

@eracode many of the comments are along the lines of "at least it's not his health" which I don't know that we can conclude. I do hope it's not though, we found over time we have many similar pain issues in life and have had shared experiences in the "system". It'll be a shame to not be able to talk with him about that stuff again.

@handle9 there isn't enough information available to draw that conclusion, which is half of the problem I referred to earlier about some of the threads here on GZ lately. People are just looking for the worst in each other and it sucks to see it here.

No need to prolong this but I was responding to @timbosan who said “Mike posted that there was personal attack he received here on Geekzone. He asked for his account to be closed because of this.”

I thought that made it clear it that his withdrawal from GZ didn’t arise because of his physical health, which was being speculated upon earlier.

Agreed. My point being that perceived personal attacks could have a health impact also.
