Something I came up with in the late 90's that I haven't ever changed. Spelling changes depending on availability but it's pretty much the same in anything I visit or play.

Hammerer is an extended variant of my nickname, Hammer, which I used on another NZ website at a time when I was regularly wielding a hammer. I'd prefer my actual nickname but it is the same as a family name / surname so it is always taken unless it is a website I've created.

Now I use a different moniker which doesn't hit anyone else's preferences. One day I'll get it changed here too because I've been told in various places that some people interpret "Hammerer" as aggressive. My son used his name on Runescape and was banned because some German users read it as a racist death threat.

Pass....

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

I used to be a keen collector of early NZ stamps.

The first NZ issue showed a young Queen Victoria "full face" - an attractive design.

Later issues showed an ageing Queen Victoria "side face" - with some remarkably unflattering results (see below)

So now you know.  🙂

Shortened version of first name, combined with -zaemon, which is the end to a lot of samurai-era Japanese male names.
Vaguely relevant given I've spent half my adult life in Japan.

I use to supply coffee to a family who are close friends + known for my coffee making and consumption skills, so they bestowed upon me the great title of Coffeebaron.

When I left home in the early 90's and set-up my first ISP account I had to come up with an email address. This was back in the days of 28kbps dial up modems so the whole process was rather slow.

I tried every variation I could possibly think of using my name and I kept getting "Sorry, this username is already taken". After what seemed like an eternity I was about to give up when I spotted the Yates gardening guide on the bookshelf next to my computer. I randomly scrolled through the pages and landed on the Senecio Rufiglandulosus, part of the daffodil family. I typed in senecio@xxxxxxx.com.au and it was available so I went with it. I've continued to use Senecio or variants of it ever since in email addresses or forum usernames.

Mine's not all that creative and certainly doesn't have as much history as some of the ones here! I couldn't think of a decent name for my character in an online game so I hit the Randomise button and it came up with Behodar. The name stuck.

It involves a gorgeous girl, a bare chest, salt, lemon and tequila. But it'd be a much better story if the bare chest wasn't mine.

Years back I worked with an expat Asian where the number 8 is considered lucky. My Asian business partner was incredibly superstitious and anything we did here had to be checked for Feng shui and had to be auspicious. I am not Asian or superstitious and at the time bought a new car...he went nuts because the numberplate had two 4s in it which means death and he wouldn’t get in. I soon 'lost' the plates and got new ones with the most 8s I could manage. He would visit our home and glance uncomfortably at the ceiling. Turned out that overhead beams are also bad feng shui and he would never place himself under one when sitting at the table. I became so used to considering superstitions that with a username that needed a number to pass, figured three 8s has to be a good choice.

A sort of self-deprecating play on words reflecting that I know bugger-all about serious tech stuff.

Hi all,

I'm just wondering where peoples usernames came from.

Mine was from a game many years ago called F22 Lightning... I wasn't the best and kept getting shot down, hence the name.

I'm sure others have more interesting stories, just for some fun as some topics get a bit niggly 😎

Ive seen this thread before lol, a few years back.

Boring here  initials and GZ themed rest of it
