I hope he learns which I am sure he will the back lash would have certainly hit home for him.

Did anybody see the main news the other night with the women protesting which I whole heartily agree. One of the woman right in front of the camera had a sign "Dont Fuc*en touch me without the *"

Was half expecting an apology from tvnz but seen nothing. Wife and I had a giggle and were like Fu*k yeah hahahaha.

Yes I know its off topic.

The BSA ruled on this years ago. I think the basics are if it is in a news piece and not the main focus but related to what was being reported on then it is fine. They are also not meant to draw attention to it as well.

MikeB4: ...attempting to trivialise racism is racism.

Few here think racism is OK, but zero tolerance for racism doesn't have to mean defaulting to maximum punishment for every offence. And your view that anyone who doesn't agree with your "maximum punishment" approach is tolerating racism, and therefore a racist themselves, means that no one can have a discussion with you about it.

I'm sure there are better things to focus on than a slip of the tongue from a washed-up rugby idiot.

I had left this thread (because it went exactly where I predicted it would) , but this puts everything so nicely I wanted to step in and say well done.

I wish I had more than 1 x +1 to add to it.

I bet those favouring a zero tolerance approach are enjoying the benefits of white oppression.

Hypocrites.

So long as each new generation is less racist than the previous, then we're on the right track. The pendulum is even starting to swing the other way, with white low socio-economic group's now being disadvantaged by their skin colour.

@surfsup1000 if you had your grand daughter sobbing into you neck because of racial abuse you would have zero tolerance.

Those who trivialise and make it a storm in a teacup need to walk in shoes of others. Attitudes in here sicken me.

Ha, sounds like a heartbeat away from the 'all lives matter' retort.

I bet you'll find white, low socio-economic groups are actually disadvantaged by their socio-economic status, not their skin colour.

A lower socio economic Maori child will receive far more assistance and opportunities than an equivalent lower socio economic white child.

The white child is discriminated against because of the colour of their skin. But, it is unfashionable to consider them because it does not fit in with woke dogma.

This is exactly why others have referred to earlier about these threads being a waste of time. Do you want to call me any other names?

No, the white child is discriminated because it is poor. Poor people are always discriminated against. That is how our society is constructed. If the white child wins the lottery, it is no longer poor and will no longer suffer poor discrimination. It can buy the things it needs to show it is no longer poor.

A black child cannot buy a different skin colour. It will always be black.

Probably because in some people's eyes discussion of racism is racist. It gets ridiculous.

Whatever your grand daughter went through was obviously very nasty and traumatic, and I'd like to think that no-one here would intentionally trivialise her experience.

But making your argument personal doesn't make it any more valid. I don't think anyone here would defend or make excuses for abusing a young girl. Anyone one doing something like that should absolutely be facing very strong punishment. But not every offense is as a egregious as that, and not every offender as malicious.

I don't think anyone is arguing that any form of racism is acceptable, just that in many instances education is a better response than punishment.

The low socio economic white child is discriminated against because the law prevents them from applying for the same financial grants, educational scholarships, or university entrance spots that are reserved for maori.   The fact is, being maori and poor is far more advantageous than being white and poor.

If mikeb4 wants to complain about his granddaughter experiencing racism.  It is an awful thing.  But how about the student in first year med school who studied her guts out all year, achieved incredible results in the 90's, but failed to get into second year med school because over half the positions are reserved for maori. She is devastated, has quit uni for this year, and trying to think what to do now that her life plan's have been thrown into chaos.

[edit] on the plus side, friend's of our's sent their boy to otago to study medicine.  He is likely to get into his second year because his grandparents are maori. His family is also wealthy so best of both worlds :) We are happy for them.    I wonder why they don't expand the medical school, we are always short of doctor's anyway, so why can't we have the maori entry scheme AND allow the brightest kids through.
