Item: A $WHACKD tattoo eh. Well that *proves* it was state-sponsored assassination then!

Does anyone know what McAfee's conspiracy theory was?

That "they" were out to get him. He was correct - even if in the end he beat them to it.

Mental health cannot be an excuse for everything. MacAfee was just a jerk. He has done the world a favour. At last. His software was also crap. The only thing he was good at was marketing  it to rubes.

It can be an excuse if your mental health is unregulated for years. At that point someones whole personality is impacted and most people interacting with them probably just think they're a jerk.

I find it sad and astonishing that mental is still so utterly misunderstood in Aotearoa. I guess I shouldn't be astonished given our abysmal record on mental health issues.

Just as well we have you here to lecture anyone who you perceive gets that wrong.

Being an ahole and having mental illness are neither mutually inclusive or mutually exclusive. It's entirely possible to be/have one, both or neither.

Unless you knew him personally, you are no more qualified to diagnose which of those applies than anyone else.

MacAfee aside, I see plenty of examples of local jerks parading around in gang regalia, attacking people for looking at them the wrong way or wearing the wrong colour t-shirt, breaking into parties uninvited, just being generally unpleasant and intimidating and anti-social. Also many others who are not gang members. Mental health is certainly a real issue, but a lot of it is just bad behaviour from a$$holes who don't give a damn. At some point there has to be a line drawn, and people have to be made responsible for their actions.

How much of that is related to trauma and emotional and/or chemical regulation I wonder. Certainly don't disagree that people should be held accountable for their actions, but I'd like to see more focus on rehabilitation and mental health support than punishment.

But this is all somewhat of topic. I'll still watch the movie when someone makes it.
