The seemingly impending invasion of Ukraine. The world has enough pain and suffering now, this isn't likely to make that any better.
You'd think there would be high priorities, but perhaps I am just naive.
People I care about having problems I can't fix.
I'm a geek, a gamer, a dad and an IT Professional. I have a full rack home lab, size 15 feet, an epic beard and Asperger's. I'm a bit of a Cypherpunk, who believes information wants to be free and the Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it.
Affecting me in a positive way: Leaving my current job - finally being recognised for the contribution I have made.

That's awesome man. I know it's something you were keen for.

I don't have enough +1's for that.
When you realize one of you kids stops calling you Daddy (With that gleeful happy tone), and starts calling you Dad.
Restructuring at work and my current role to be disestablished (along with others). It sucks. And it happens a week after celebrating 1 year working with the company I moved to after being restructured from my previous job. Oh fun times.

I am so sorry to hear that. It's always stressful. IIRC correctly, do you work in healthcare or mental health? I know there are openings all over the country (my sister works in the same field). I'd be happy to put you two in touch to see if she might have some insights into opportunities?

So sorry to hear that. I lost my job a couple of years ago through restructuring. Don't take it personally. As often as not, the restructure is a senior manager who needs to be seen to be making changes, often in a situation where budget and other constraints mean it isn't possible to make actual change.
On the plus side, now is a very good time to be looking for work. I recently switched to a new job (the job I got after my redundancy was crap) and got a substantial pay rise.
This impacts me, but its not so small.
I've spent the last 12 months training to run my first UltraMarathon guided by Kerry and his partner Ali through their Squadrun coaching service. I've never met them in person but we've had many chats via email or messenger as they've helped to get me into the best shape I've been in for years. Unfortunately the event was cancelled when we went into the red traffic light setting. I never got to run my Ultra, but what I missed the most was that infamous finish line Kerry bear hug that drives all of his coached athletes over their last 20km (maybe next year?).
Kerry and Ali have an incredible challenge in front of them now. What has been absolutely tremendous is the incredible community support that they have. The NZ and AU trail and ultra running community may be small but it is an incredibly tight and generous community. Kerry and Ali have given so much to this community over many years and it is amazing to see that community give back in their time of need.

I've known Kerry and Ali for about 4 years now. They took me from couch potatoe to ultra runner and I'm forever grateful for their support and guidance. I also count them as friends and catch up for some non alcoholic beverages and witty banter every time I'm in Rotorua. To hear this news was gutting. I can complain all I want about losing my job but at the end of the day, I'm healthy and mobile and I can always find other work. A spinal injury of this magnitude is life changing and for someone like Kerry, to go from running 160km in 24 hours to now being confined to a wheelchair, is massive.
Our 6-month-old kitten appears to have been hit by a car last night. Doesn't look life-threatening at this stage, though they aren't sure just yet. My wife and kids are away, and we need to give that news to my daughter who's kitten it actually is.
We are all hoping for the best, but certainly wasn't a pleasant start to my day! Needed this like a hole in the head this week!
I'm very sorry to hear that. I really hope for the best for the kitten and all of you.
