NAS is one partial way of solving the "Great Backup Conundrum". The key is to spread the risk.

Have used a 1515+ at home for quite a few years.  Love the backup and sharing abilities for photos and videos. Basically your own iCloud, Dropbox and Google drive all in one.

Keen to get a new badge too!

Bought a Synology in 2012 to migrate the company data from Windows Server 2008 to a platform that offered true cloud data and synchronization, wayyyy ahead of 365 onedrive (Skydrive!!) it actually worked similar to, and better than, dropbox which was new(ish) then. We could even synch folders and backup to our other site in AKL, awesome! As the founder said, synology offer key competitive innovations that are ahead of the curve.

My own DS113j, bought for file storage and sharing, is still going strong after 7 years, now replaced with DS220+ so I can run surveillance, video streaming, audio streaming, synology drive etc without the lag...

I guess I'm a Synology fan boy, and with good reason! I've hooked a few people onto them, including a company recently to replace their Unifi surveillance system because Ubiquiti dropped support for their NVR software so I bought a Deammachine Pro and it bricked after the first firmware update... next stop , Synology DS720+  perfect for 10 cam setup and is fine with Unifi Pro 3G cams as RSTP + other ONVIF cameras.

I don't work for them!

Criticisms... they are trending a bit too much towards taking your data into their systems for some of their packages. They don't offer a web browser package. They don't offer a book reader package, so their media coverage is not complete. Their camera list for surveillance station is a long way out of date, but ONVIF works anyway, as long as the camera manufacturer has implemented it properly...

Synology has come a long way from the days of my DS209j, which is dreadfully in need of updating.

Thanks for the opportunity to enter this giveaway!

Cheers

You only think you don't need one 🧐.... anyway, Diskstation is not a NAS, that's just one application...

Impressive looking device, and interesting to see what they are planning next year with S3 compliant object storage. Would love to get me hands on one!

I need a NAS - I am currently running 12 old desktops, each with multiple USB drives attached.

In the winter, I am in shorts and t-shirt, in the summer I can only handle about three minutes in the room, plus the water levels are already rising, and I am concerned about the Dalai Lama complaining.

What are badges?

Alan.

Well  I must say they were very informative videos.  I have trouble lately remembering just where I filed or stored things, having one portal to safely store things would make life a lot easier.  :-)

I've installed a couple of these for customers recently and even had one customer email me praising the improvement in performance over their old QNAP.  That hardly ever happens.  I'm very impressed with the new Synology models.
