With an average rating of 1.6 out of a possible 5 stars, I can't imagine it's a good solution...

if you read the viewers, it says that this should be install by default so gave 1 star (and is now with fresh install of windows 11 with the latest version) or talk about codec which is the video version and more of pain as MS is charging for their hevc codec but in a admin command prompt, running "winget install CodecGuide.K-LiteCodecPack.Full" sort all my codec issues for video and what I do on any new PC

Admittedly, that's with only 33 ratings at the time of writing. The companion to that is the HEVC Video Extensions which will cost you money.

You might also be interested in the Web Media Extensions to fully support all the other, non-natively supported file formats.

I'm astounded that Microsoft has managed to break Notepad, of all things. All I'm trying to do is close an unsaved file! It tells me it's not saved, I click "Don't save"... and it just stays open. Fortunately it closed on the third attempt, but I'm not sure what madness inspired me to try it three times in the first place.

Antivirus software or clipboard managers sometimes hook into save dialogs and might delay or interrupt normal flow.

Also the Microsoft Store version of Notepad is supposed to have some GUI weirdness.

Windows has so much legacy code, supporting so much old crap, and trying to be everything at once (home? business?) that it can only get bigger and bigger.

Add to this all the AI crap they are putting in there, and it can probably seriously kill the most powerful CPUs available these days.

A friend just told me how to get "normal" Notepad back again.

Settings/Apps/Advanced app settings/App execution aliases/Notepad > Off.

CPUs have only got faster for code that uses newer features. Sequential stuff like IO to hardware using legacy file systems is slow, will always be slow and could only be made significantly faster by blowing it all away and starting fresh. Apple like to do that and leave people with old software screwed over. Microsoft like to keep legacy stuff working forever because somewhere there is someone with their business running on some old crap code that has workaround for windows 98 behavior that still needs to operate.

And unfortunately a 19 year old died over the weekend in Palmerston North playing this in their backyard with mates. A tragedy that could've been prevented.
