Adding to the above I read the reviews on the App Store and it appears many are having issues some quite serious. very disappointing.

I thought Wise was the one place where these issues didn't happen. Sorry to hear the mushroom plague has infected them as well.

Much to my wife's annoyance, I try to obey the speed restriction signs. I have spent quite a bit of time working inside the cones and know how frightening it can be when vehicles don't slow down.

I do understand that drivers get annoyed when there doesn't seem to be a good reason to slow down, especially when there is nothing going on inside the area.

In the UK they have trailer mounted Gatso cameras that get sited in road works.

Can’t see any particular reason why it couldn’t be done here.

Do they get chopped down like the UK does with their other cameras?

Wise. This morning transferred an amount to my Wise account. Normally it goes through and sits in the account as it should. I look in Wise app and see the amount has been deposited but it’s blocked. To unblock it I needed to respond to why I was transferring the money from a drop down menu giving various options like, family, bill paying, investments and others. None of the options were I don’t want to say. Next, I had to give an amount I planned to add in per year before I could unblock MY funds and make a payment.

Very irritated.

Not new, I'm afraid. I dropped them years ago after they demanded personal information of someone I was sending a pittance to.

AML/CTF rules apply to everyone.

My quack's surgery sent me a text saying my account balance was $0.00 and I had to pay by [date].  I ignored it, and then I got a reminder, threatening late payment fees, if I don't pay them $0.00 immediately.  Tomorrow, I'm going in to pay them nothing in person.  I have one of those zip-lock coin bags.

I remember something like this at work when doing the statements if there was something unallocated on someones account, but they had paid it. Balance to pay was zero but something was outstanding so it triggered the warnings.

The part that irritated me was that the amount I added to the account was 1k, hardly money laundering amount. I have added twice as much at other times with no issues. What business of theirs is what I plan to use it for? They could politely request the information as a survey but not block access to my funds.

It has made me totally lose faith in the reliability of using Wise when we travel. Thinking of joining Revolut who I read also has some bad reviews but it would at least give us an alternative card as back up to avoid using a bank card and if Wise blocks again.

I suspect your credit rating could likely be affected by this, so better check.

Revolut have to follow the same rules and ask the same questions. It’s part of the AML/CTF stuff.

You can answer the questions or not use these types of services.

Who cares? Credit rating is almost meaningless in New Zealand. It’s not the US where it actually matters.

I checked and AOL were almost exclusively using 1990's technology: 56 kbps modem / Local Access Numbers over copper lines (No VOIP)

We shouldn't feel too smug about 56 kbps. In New Zealand, regulatory requirements set a minimum service quality for ADSL in rural areas at 32 kbps.

Still AOL continued existence kinda explains why paper forms are still so popular in the US.

AOL is finally shutting down dial-up: The Verge

AOL dial-up is ending on September 30th according to a statement posted on the company’s website. It marks the end of the service that was synonymous with the internet for many since its launch in 1991.

“AOL routinely evaluates its products and services and has decided to discontinue Dial-up Internet,” reads the statement by the Yahoo-owned company. “This service will no longer be available in AOL plans. As a result, on September 30, 2025 this service and the associated software, the AOL Dialer software and AOL Shield browser, which are optimized for older operating systems and dial-up internet connections, will be discontinued.”

You might be surprised that the service was still operating. I’m not. At last count, a 2019 US census estimated that 265,000 people in the United States were still using dial-up internet.

Payment overlords and morality police Mastercard and Visa determine what media lacks "serious artistic values", can issue $200,000 penalties, and get content pulled from game providers.

This applies to content that is legal. Much of the material is distasteful, but also material that "reflects negatively on Mastercard."

Credit rating records seem to matter in NZ. Care to explain?
