You need to read more than just the last post. Frankv posited MSSA theft as a reason for the buyback; I was trying to ascertain how much of a risk this was. I have some knowledge of the storage requirements for MSSAs which cause me to question this as a meaningful risk

Personally don't know. This article says three MSSA items were reported stolen in 2019:

He killed 50 innocent people, do you think it would have posed much of an ethical dilemma for him to have sourced an illegal one instead?

All the buyback has achieved is convincing people willing to give up their weapons, to do so. The weapons we need to worry about are the ones which haven't been bought back.

If someone wants to kill 50 innocent people badly enough, there are ways and means.

The cost of this is between $500M and $1.2B. If that money had been spent on education or healthcare what sort of relatively better outcome could we have had?

And that's why it often takes so long, there can be considerable legal weight attached to a finding.

I rather like the NZ form actually, with a purely clinical "X died from terminal kinetic energy poisoning" it's just an entry in a ledger somewhere, if it's "X died from terminal kinetic energy poisoning brought about by ..." then if the "..." is bad enough or happens frequently enough, someone is forced to do something about it.

Even more so for wild/home kill vs commercial venison.

On a doc I watched, it was done with injection of fat, so probably more squishy than hard.

Why are movie box office records measured in $$$$$$? Unless we get huge deflation the price of tickets is always going to keep going up and the record will be broken again. They should base it on tickets sold.

Roses are red, that much is true, but violets are purple, not ****ing blue!

Like the singles charts ticket sales metric creates all kinds of ways to boost the numbers. Success is measured in $$$ I guess. Btw, very few box offices are standing ; ). Good question business related reasons I reckon.
