(I lived in America in my distant youth. I actually remember when it was 29 cents a gallon!)

Remember that they add Sales tax on top of that (I think). And that half our petrol cost is taxes.

I remember petrol going up from 36c to 39c/gal in NZ

I don't remember that, but I do remember when it was 0.1c less than the octane, i.e. 90.9c for 91 and 95.9 for 96!

I recall the days after it went to $1.9x and people loudly declared they'd stop buying petrol once it went over $2 a litre.

Here we are at over $3 a litre and we are still all buying the stuff because there really isn't a viable alternative that doesn't have a massive upfront cost.

Here we are at over $3 a litre and we are still all buying the stuff because there really isn't a viable alternative that doesn't have a massive upfront cost.

I will be expecting a pay raise to continue to be worth going to work if it goes up much more. Otherwise may as well take a worse paying job closer to home.

I took a large pay cut to take the job I have now, but got a company car with full personal use.

This morning I was hit in the back by a pigeon poo exactly on my shirt - W.T.F. - sneaky critter!

I then walked down to the canal, took off my shirt (don't worry, there's a white T-shirt underneath), just washed the spot out and put it back on. As I was on my way to my regular jeans shop anyway, there was a fat discount there and a free white t-shirt when I told the owner what had just happened. We got to talking and with that came a then hunting invitation to Namibia! What the fun? ;-)

If a guy wears something like that it's "those grubby gardening clothes again" while for women you just label them "quality pants" and you can sell them instead of keeping them in the boot to wipe the mud off the car windscreen after going down a dirt road.

The running joke in our family when we see ripped clothing sold as fashion, is that I can buy unripped jeans and increase their value and resell them by ripping holes in them ourselves.

I don't know about you, but my jeans always tear after a relatively short time when I wear them for renovating or gardening. I would no longer subscribe to the advertisement about horses tugging at work trousers and surviving this.

Remember that the fuel consumption is also significantly impacted by engine size - a Challenger 2 MBT has a 26 litre engine making 890kW!

The running joke when we had Centurian was "a jerry can to start up, a jerry can to the cattle stop" - a distance of about 400m...

Clear use case for an EV drive train here. Just need an international convention that says you can't shoot at a re-charging tank.

Bonus: When you do hit one, it will be spectacular.
