Imagine if Boris got engaged to generate some positive media coverage.

I think he is considering lobbing a missile at Russia.

Not him directly, but yes. That's precisely what he's doing through Ukraine..

Well, since you use the word "precisely", it's not what he's doing at all. UK is supplying light anti-tank missiles to the Ukraine... i.e. defensive weapons that cannot be lobbed at Russia (unless Russian tanks invade the Ukraine. Again.)

But, getting back to the man with the unfortunate initials, what do you expect from a populist? When in doubt, a populist gives the people something to make them happy... immediate, short-term, no coherent plan, reactive. When that turns to custard, as the opening of borders and lifting of restrictions did, give them something else. I guess now UK citizens should expect tax cuts or free milk or something.

Wow - this is the nightmare that is POLi. I had to do some bridging finance recently for a couple of property transactions and this was under the 'new rules'. I had to provide CSV's of the transactions and the PDF statements of the accounts.
They provided PDF guides for the major banks on how to do it. A few clicks and I was done.

I can understand the desire from the loan company (it is easy, they outsource all the risk (both from a security and also responsible lending perspective... see below picture) and if anything blows up... its highly likely that the customer absorbs the risk), but this is just wrong.

POLi seems to be an Aus/NZ adaptation of the German/European SOFORT payment system which acts as a man-in-the-middle (MITM) that sits between the purchaser/payee and the bank, in effect acting as a proxy agent for the them, getting around the European banks' intransigence around online payments. In Europe it's needed, in NZ it seems rather unnecessary - someone looked at SOFORT and said "hey, we can make money over here too doing that".

I used online eftpos the other day with PB tech.
All I had to do was select my bank and enter my mobile number.

Then I was directed to log into my own internet banking or use the app to approve the transaction and nominate the account that I wished to pay from.

Simple. Effective. No internet banking details disclosed.
A little bit late to the party but miles ahead of the risk that POli and the loan bank statements checker opens you up to.

We were at a cafe on the weekend and they had some scones on display. There was a sign saying "scones" but it didn't list the flavour.

"Are these cheese?" we ask, pointing to one.

"Those are cheese, those are date, and those are [whatever they were]", she cheerfully replies, pointing them out as she goes.

"OK, one cheese please."

"Oh, they're yesterday's. They're not for sale."

Why do they have them on display then...?

Myself and another vehicle pass a slower one on passing lane.

Other vehicle didn't turn their left indicator off for 10km afterwards! 🤦‍♂️

How can you be so inattentive that you can't see the constant flashy thing on the dash or hear the clicky thing?!

Did they speed up once they got to the passing lane like most of the other muppets do? Grrr.

I intend to sally forth and re-watch that as soon as I curtail my walpoling activities.

My car's blinky thing is so dim it's difficult to see in bright daylight. And it doesn't do the clicky thing either. So I confess that sometimes it's something I overlook when I inadvertently click the indicator left instead of press-but-not-click it for an automatic 3 blinks.
