He's closed the Brussels office completely so nobody now dealing with conforming to EU regulations.

Twitter is in for a whole lot of pain if they piss off the EU.

Probably believes that means he doesn't have to comply with GDPR. I doubt the EU would agree.

That's good news. Assuming this story is accurate it indicates Musk's free speech has practical limits where former chief Dorsey's did not or intervention was ineffective.

Yup Elon is bad person...

That's a hit piece with little if anything to do with Musk, the lawsuits and complaints cited are from 2020 and 2021, and every social media platform everywhere has problems with abuse and all of them are accused of not doing enough to stop it. Going from "there is a problem with CSAM on the Internet" to the badly-misstated "Elon Musk Is Protecting Sexually Exploited Children" (I assume it was meant to say "... is not protecting sexually exploited children" or something similar) is a non-sequitur.

The article clearly states Musk has succeeded in removing child exploitation material from Twitter where Dorsey failed. Did you read the article at all?

It was a tl;dr, didn't go all the way to the very end where the lede was well-buried.

It also remains to be seen whether this one-off action persists. Musk is great at riding in, making a grand gesture, and declaring himself the saviour of whatever (he'd make a perfect Republican politician). Being handed a ready-made list of hashtags to remove content from is very different from actively policing CSAM in the future, and given that he's fired or lost most of the people required to enforce this going forward, it could be difficult to replicate in future.

The Washington Post - ‘Opening the gates of hell’: Musk says he will revive banned accounts

24 Nov 2022

Elon Musk plans to reinstate nearly all previously banned Twitter accounts - to the alarm of activists and online trust and safety experts.

After posting a Twitter poll asking, “Should Twitter offer a general amnesty to suspended accounts, provided that they have not broken the law or engaged in egregious spam?” in which 72.4 percent of the respondents voted yes, Musk declared, “Amnesty begins next week.” ...

This is the second time in a week that Musk has used a Twitter poll to seemingly make a major decision related to the platform.

Futurism: Twitter claims video of moon rocket launch is revenge porn

...a video of a rocket taking off — an actual rocket, you pervs — does not revenge porn make, and shouldn't be flagged as such.

It seems like a silly thing to have to say, but such is the exact situation that spaceflight photographer John Kraus found himself in earlier this week. Kraus, who was on site to photograph the historic Artemis I launch, took to Twitter to post a mesmerizing video of the liftoff — only to find himself kicked off of the app shortly thereafter, due to the fact that his post, for whatever inexplicable reason, had been marked as revenge porn.

If the rocket was Blue Origin then it's very much a tossup over whether it could be X-rated.

(Link is to comedy, G-rated).

Musk says Alex Jones won't be allowed back:

USAToday: Elon Musk: My firstborn child died in my arms. I felt his last heartbeat,” Musk tweeted Sunday in response to calls for Jones' reinstatement. “I have no mercy for anyone who would use the deaths of children for gain, politics or fame.”

Mentioned:

Milo Yiannopoulos - telling his followers on Telegram that the U.S. should ban blasphemy and “institute meaningful penalties for insulting, irreverent or contemptuous language about Our Lord.”

Tommy Robinson - produced "Rape of Britain" documentary series, giving skewed lines taken from the Qu’ran and life of the Prophet Muhammad supposedly to suggest on-street grooming was a uniquely Muslim issue.

Stefan Molyneux - delivers “race realist” propaganda, based on pseudo-scientific sources: biological determinism, social Darwinism and non-white racial inferiority.

Katie Hopkins, Paid significant damages to a Muslim family whom she had falsely accused of extremist links. After Manchester Arena bombing at an Ariana Grande concert, Hopkins tweeted about the need for a "final solution", the Nazis' term for the Holocaust: "22 dead - number rising. Schofield. Don't you even dare. Do not be part of the problem. We need a final solution. #Machester"

NZ Herald: Elon Musk announces ‘general amnesty’ for all suspended Twitter accounts

...Another user questioned why algorithms that “deboost” certain content even exist. “We know they’re never used on liberal accounts. Why can’t they be removed across the board?” they asked.

...Musk agreed, “It has been really bad. Far left San Francisco/Berkeley views have been propagated to the world via Twitter. I’m sure this comes as no surprise to anyone watching closely. Twitter is moving rapidly to establish an even playing field. No more thumb on the scale!”

High-profile figures who were previously banned for breaking Twitter’s rules include the likes of right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos, anti-Islam campaigner Tommy Robinson, Canadian podcaster Stefan Molyneux and UK commentator Katie Hopkins, among many others.

The Conversation: Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover has disrupted the Christchurch Call – NZ needs to rethink its digital strategy

...At the end of September, the government announced it would partner with Microsoft, Twitter and the US government to develop technologies that could reveal how algorithms influence users’ political beliefs and potential actions.

The collaboration was a direct outcome of the Christchurch Call, the initiative begun two years ago after the terrorist attacks on two mosques in the city. Its aim is to tackle the problem of online platforms acting as breeding grounds for extremist views and violence, threatening the democratic social fabric.

However, one of Musk’s first actions was to fire [a lot of] Twitter’s [heads]... Seemingly, Musk considers their work and advocacy for algorithmic transparency and content moderation goes against his vision of free speech on the Twitter platform.

The entire team the New Zealand government was planning to work with disappeared. And it’s unlikely any work outlined in September will actually eventuate.
