Get a life.
Couldn't find one so I'm still here.
Not advice, but a resulting consequence: take care of your cyber security yourself - now I do this as a mini-company freelance with my son, without us having to. He learns something when he goes to university, I stay in touch with modern technology and the needy customer is happy.
- NET: FTTH, OPNsense, 10G backbone, GWN APs, ipPBX

I have struggled to find a good response to this. Geekzone has been hugely significant in my life and I want my reply to reflect that. It is hard to be specific, though. I have learned so much here and had so much invaluable help on technical issues. My Geekzone experience is the cumulative result of all that over many years, and for me it has been transformative.
A lot of what I learned came just from forum lurking. Often I would see something in a post that wasn’t familiar to me and I would look it up. Laugh if you will, but this is how I learned about the existence of LAN switches, which I knew nothing about but which are now one of my most valued tools. When I joined Geekzone, I was still on dial-up (not by choice!) and although I had done some software hacking in the days of MS-DOS, I knew nothing at all about networking.
Over the years many Geekzone users have pointed me in the right direction. One who stands out in my memory is @Timmmay, who put me on to the Constant Vigil UPS, which was the perfect solution for me at the time. But he is just one of many. The real value of Geekzone lies not in one helpful individual, but in all of them, and I have been fortunate to encounter many in my time here. Geekzone is truly unique, and I feel privileged to be part of it.

Just having a supportive community. It's great.
The various content on this forum has likely saved me untold hours on helpdesk calls.
cokemaster: JohnR aka Linux has given me some interesting advice over the years. Some funny, some constructive and some hard truths.
I have my name in honour of John (@linux) and Peter (@BarTender). I owe them 80% of who I am.
The other 20% I owe to @nate, who gave me a body.

"Don't do it" cropped up a fair bit, so was applied.
