kiwiharry: Reminds me of the time I got sent “multiple“ Ring Chime Units.

What happened with those in the end?

Contacted the logistics company listed on the packing slip and told them to collect them. Nothing happened for a week or so, so I made contact again. Still nobody arranged collection so I emailed the founder and inventor of Ring; Jamie Siminoff. His team finally arranged to have them collected.

I kindly asked if the would give me a ring camera for my honesty and time. They said no but gave me a complimentary 1 year sub.

Yikes…PB back at it again.

My most notable experience with them….

Returned a faulty item which I had received as a gift (had receipt). They credited the wrong account (original gifted) after I had explicitly I was the recipient. Asked said gifter (very awkward as we were not really in contact anymore) who sent me a screenshot showing the credit in his account. Gave that to PB and the rep sent me to their fraud team because apparently the screenshot proved I hacked into someone else’s account. I know all this because they sent me the email thread…..got given the run-around trying to sort but eventually sorted and some random guy apologised (only when I prompted) while the original rep went completely silent. Super good service.

Only shop there for super cheap, urgent items but otherwise just price match elsewhere. Have had other returns with them in the past that went poorly as well but nothing quite so exciting as above.

I remember that post. Why did you remove the photo?

Back on the topic, never had a problem with PB Tech. In fact just this morning I've ordered a peripheral and went to collect it, no problem.

@freitasm I feel its a case of they are generally ok but with things go bad they seem to double down on the silly as opposed to accepting a mistake and as the old advertising slogan went "it's the putting right that counts"  My son often rages about PB Tech mess ups, I don't know where he gets that from though, certainly not me.

thought this was common knowledge of PBTech for well over a decade now.

They're big and convenient, but their customer service has always been terrible.   often treat you like a criminal when you leave the store (manukau one certainly does).

My goto is usually computer lounge these days.   MightyApe has better shipping and they do pricematch, they just don't carry much these days.  Playtech has gotten expensive.

Any place that offers POLI as a payment option... yeah... nah.

I use PB Tech a hell of a lot and over the years have only really had one mediocre experience, but they put it right in the end.  I get they are the de facto supplier for the country's tech and when an org gets that big the customer experience can suffer.... but for me it's been consistently good.  Also consistently cheaper than other online stores for most things.  Maybe they treat different customers differently based on spend - I buy a lot of gadgets personally, but also have a lucrative business account with them.

Okay so, having had my gripe earlier about passing on the transaction fee for credit card use, it's probably only fair I tell you about my experience with PB Tech in the past couple of days.  I saw Wakrak's post in the Bargains & Deals thread about their Samsung sale/livestream on Thursday night.  This was between 11pm and midnight.  Decided I can never have enough 64GB microSD cards so ordered three of them to take advantage of the free shipping code that is mentioned in another thread here.

Put the order through just before midnight Thursday, paid with bank transfer as you would obviously expect.  Got an email yesterday (Friday) about 2pm to say the order had been processed and picked up from the Auckland Uni branch to deliver to me in Napier.  And, about half an hour ago (1:30pm Saturday) , the NZ Post courier turned up at my door and delivered the package to me.

I had expected I might see it Monday if things were going my way, and more probably Tuesday.  But no, delivered here in Napier in less than 24 hours for an order that was placed in the middle of the night using the supposed "slower" method of payment.  Not sure if I'm more pleasantly shocked by PB Tech or NZ Post in this instance.  I've heard NZ Post couriers sometimes work on Saturdays but never witnessed it personally until today.

So, kudos to both companies on this one, a miserly $27 sale with free (as it turns out) Saturday delivery! Must be what it's like having Amazon Prime in some fancy place overseas where they care about speed and efficiency for their customers.

I suppose it depend on the individual, I just purchased an upgrade box and an NVMe at PBTech Glenfield and the salesman correctly advised installing the NMVe (bought on the Samsung sale) before the operating system as that would be by far the fastest boot process.

Already planned to do that but appreciated the advice.

PBTech being very hit and miss on after sales service is nothing new, has been like that for decades.
