I think I just toasted myself off TM for life, which is rather sad.

6 years ago when I first started on TM and opened my account, I had a username that I chose just to get my account up and running, but then later (perhaps after 4 trades) I had spotted an available username which I thought was great and better than what I had so I wrote to them to get it changed. Which they did.

Now after 6 years I'm tired of my username, and wanted a change. The username reflects my past when I was at uni, and I get hassled about it a bit, and wish to change it to leave all that behind. I'm always reading about people getting disabled for using multiple accounts. So I thought I would get my account disabled by TM and start a new one with the new username. I thought their problem with multiple accounts was shill bidding, etc.

So thats what I did, but afterwards when it was done they emailled and in it was stated: "Please note that it is against our terms and conditions to create more than 1 membership on the site.".

I thought this was no problem as I'm closing one down permanently to start another. So I emailled for clarification on the issue and they said : "You are only permitted to operate one membership we will not allow you to run any other accounts besides username xxxxxxx, you can not start a new one".

So basically once a username is chosen and started, you have it for life (unless disabled), and it can never ever be changed.

They appear to have now blocked my emails as my emails come back from TM saying they will not be processed. So now I have no TM account, and if I start another, they will toast it too as it breaches their T&Cs to have more than one account per lifetime.  Nice of them to tell me after they disabled my account, rather than pointing it out in previous conversation before this point.

I'm not exactly, sorry, wasn't exactly a small fish on TM, they'd get $1000 in fees every 6 months for sure from me, so I guess that stops until some sort of resolution occurs. I might also add my feedback was 100% positive, and my account had credit, so I wasn't trying to evade fees or negative feedbacks.

Use an alternative email on the account, that should fix your problem!  I tired to have my username changed as it is my full name, but was told they will not..

Hey ya!

I had the same issue as this but what happened to me is i had my TM account assigned to my ISP email address ****@paradise.co.nz and then i switched ISP and lost that email address. I hadnt used TM for sometime and forgot my password so i couldnt get it reset as i couldnt access the email address.

I created a new account and had used it for half a year then just the other day i had it disabled for having multipul accounts.

I was currently running a few auction including a car which i was referring people to trade to look at when txting me from the number on my car but little did i know they had removed my auction and disabled my account. It took me 5 days worth of emails and hassle to get one of my account back up and running and it was my old one that i first signed up with so i had to rre-write all my auctions that i currently had running.

Ive given up on trademe now aswel as there are somany other better alternatives!

They also did this a bad time as i have decided to try my hand at web design and was looking for something to make a website about. I created www.dontrademe.co.nz and this site gives all the links to all the best alternatives to trademe.

Im still adding more pages and will update it as they are made. Will have information about each of the sites, their Pro's and their Con's.

Also i have added a Google Search box at the top that you can search a item your looking for and it will find all listings on the alternate sites for you.

Cheers,
Hekktor

Trade me has steadily gone downhill since it changed ownership. All they seem to be doing is hiring idiots and raising the fees. I have used Zillion for a couple of sales now.
