Or how about male vs female clients and their insistence of watching over you as you do the work.

Females tend to leave you alone and carry on with whatever they're doing, whereas guys (especially older ones) will helicopter around and watch every step you make. I've had to politely ask a few to move back as they were in my way and making me lose concentration on what I was doing (which also means the job takes longer, and they have to pay more).

I get that sometimes curiosity is why they want to watch, and that's ok especially if they ask beforehand.

I've done the same when the fibre was being ran to my property. I asked the chorus guys if I could watch the fibre blowing process, as I'd never seen it before and was interested to see how it was done. They said no problems at all.

Likewise, emergency situations occur that the plumber or whatever has to attend to immediately... e.g. a house where they have no water, or a toilet that's overflowing or whatever. If *you* were in that house, you'd be very glad that the plumber dropped his scheduled job and came round to assist.

However, communication is often missing... if the plumber says he'll be there at 2pm but is held up, courtesy would be to call the householder to tell them when he will be able to get there, because often arrangements have been made to ensure someone is home at the required time.

Service people in general can struggle to make specific appointments reliably for reasons outside of their control. Jobs can be more complicated than initially reported, or they are asked to fix 'just one more little thing'.

The biggest issue is a lack of communication.

My experience with batteries is that nowadays they give little warning of impending demise. Everything will be fine and then suddenly it won't even crank the engine over at all. (In the good old days, a tired battery would still crank the engine, albeit slowly). Maybe that's a characteristic of Sealed Lead Acid batteries vs the ordinary lead acid batteries?

The built in clock getting slow was an indicator of battery voltage dropping on several vehicle I've owned. I'd notice that the clock regularly had to be adjusted and a few weeks later the starter battery would die. New battery and the clock was accurate again. This won't work with a clock that is getting its time from a network or a mobile phone.

Sure, there are some rough fellas about, but you can usually pick that early on. Communication on both sides goes a long way

Yup, that's why there's a noticeable difference between (say) plumbers and carpet layers, with the plumbers it's "I'll be there Tuesday inshallah" and it's more or less that, while with the carpet layers they have a pretty good idea how long each job will take and can give a reasonably accurate estimate of when they'll be on site.

What's annoying is the stuff in between those two cases, e.g. the builders working two houses up who still haven't managed to drop by to go over the work they'll be doing here once they're finished there.
